End of tenancy council advise wait for eviction

Once you go down the route of letting a court evict you, you will have serious trouble ever getting a private let again.
I don't think that is the case at all as how would future landlords even know? Perhaps it might come up if you go through the same agent. Also if you can't get a good reference then many people get round this by using references from prior rented properties or provide bank statements showing they paid the rent on time for the past 6/12 months.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -

That's not true. It's no more damaging than not having a reference from the most recent landlord, which can be inconvenient but there are several ways to mitigate it effectively.
One other thing I forgot to mention; one other poster told you the eviction process can take 12 months. It could, if the courts are super busy and the LL messes up the procedure. But more realistically you are looking at 4-8 weeks for a hearing and 4-6 weeks for an actual eviction by court bailiff. As a guesstimate. There may well be legal strategies to delay this further, but you shouldn't work to that assumption.0 -
Thank you all so much for the replies.
Can we legally change the locks?0 -
Yes, change the barrels of the locks and keep the old ones to replace when you do leave.
This must be a very unsettling time for you and your family, it annoys me so much how some LL's want to rent and sell all at the same time. Just do one or the other! Ok so maybe they need the rental money to pay the mortgage or whatever but honestly they should keep it seperate rent out property or sell the property, don't mix and match.
Sorry, just my opinion! I hope it all works out for you. LL sound like a right muppet, maybe his solicitor didn't even know there were tenants in situ when he exchanged?"Put the kettle on Turkish, lets have a nice cup of tea.....no sugars for me.....I'm sweet enough"0 -
