Totally agree with Dutchy above, if you have a complaint make it in a clear and concise way. Whilst you may have had an issue thousands of others have no doubt had great holidays with TIU (can't believe I'm defending a tour operator).
And just a note about the thread title, this is a help and discussion forum, most people like me don't appreciate the tone of being told what to do, we are experienced enough to make our own minds up about situations, including tour operators, resorts, hotels, and the type of person who writes in the way you have.

You really need to put this to rest. This happened 8 months ago. It was shocking. With hindsight if you did feel intimidated so early on in your holiday you could have asked for a move.
What you are doing would make that couple delighted. Look what they have done to you. I have travelled a lot and have had some not so good experiences as well but you really need to deal with it and not let it ruin an entire holiday and then let it fester for months after. Egypt is a place where cultures can clash I am afraid. Research your holiday destination and work out which places are going to be safer for you to visit.
In the meantime I would change your title to warning about Dreams Vacation Resort- as I think folks do need to know how their management dealt with you.

  • I echo the above posts.

Firstly the title of the thread is so misleading and has nothing to do with the actual event. It is sometimes quite tedious to read the amount of misleading threads in relation to complaints.

Firstly it is an unfortunate incident, however this I believe does not warrant blame assigned to the travel company, more this was a 'local' issue with the hotel management that you believe was not dealt with in an effective way.

Could they have dealt with it better - Yes
Is it the travel companies fault - No
    Is compensation payable - No
Is the offer they made to you fair - Yes

Unfortunately the expectation that compensation is paid nowadays for every error / mistake / inconvenience / poor handling according to our own beliefs, is becoming quite ridiculous.

Having travelled extensively, there are many, many instances where hotels / restaurants / staff etc have dealt with / handled / undertaken an action etc which I may not necessarily expect to see in the Uk or may not meet my expectations.

This can be down to cultural differences, training of staff, language barriers, but certainly in 99% of cases is part of the travel experience, and understanding and appreciating that different countries have different expectations and standards.

I have to laugh when I see hotel reviews / holiday reviews whereby the complaint is the sausages are not the same as in the uk, or coronation street was not being shown on satellite.

Put it down to experience, albeit that yes could have been handled in a better way however it has happened and you cannot change that.

We are all human, things do not always go to plan, however we seem to have become less tolerant nowadays and expect everything to go they way we expect it on each and every occasion. Unfortunately that does not always happen, and sometimes we have to accept that and move on.

I don't understand why you felt the need to point out who it was to the hotel staff.

she didn't - she was asked by the hotel staff to do so.
  • We had a great holiday with Thomson last year and are rebooking with them again. As another poster has said, you should change this threads title as it clearly an issue with the resort and nothing to do with the travel agents.

OP I only skim read your post as it is a bit long, but am I right in thinking you dont want anyone to book a holiday with Thomsons because someone tasted some food at a buffet and then the s... hit the fan?

    How is that Thomsons fault.?

£150 compo seems more than fair IMO
  • Put it this way we know of someone a few years back that complained about the price of drinks in Tunisia (booked with Thomson) and was offered half of his holiday price back as compensation, and to be fair he wasn't chased through a hotel restaurant to the reception entrance.

All we really want is for Thomson to contact us and discuss what happened so we can get all of this across. Rather than be told "tough" this is what you're getting!

No, you don't want a discussion with Thomson - you want compensation. That is obvious from the paragraph in bold. At least be honest about your motives!

I understand what you all have said, but in our efforts to sort this out with the hotel had failed. They wouldn't accept anything we told them as the truth. If anything the hotel were more at fault in their dealing of the issue, and this hotel and its staff were recommended by Thomson, hence the package holiday we chose.

The fact that we were shoved out of a side door in plain view of the family in question who then ran after us to confront us by screaming at us, for what telling the staff that a hygiene issue had occurred!

They are the Agent if you like that we had booked with so any issues we would go through them. I felt threatened that's what the issue is all about, threatened in a foreign country. We had no idea when the family would be leaving or if they had just arrived.

We were basically forced to apologise to appease a very smug, arrogant Egyptian national, when we shouldn't have. Its easy for you to say stand your ground, you weren't there and when you have a giant of a man accusing you and shouting at you for everyone to hear and pointing at you is very intimidating. Basically if we hadn't apologised the situation would have escalated in a physical manner.

We paid for the security of having a Thomson Package deal.

And the motive of this complaint is revealed....

She chose to answer rather than say I'm not sure who it was or decline to answer.
