PPI - Advice needed!

A bit of a strange one here! Before my mother passed away recently, we discussed her claiming for mis-sold PPI. She had a Lloyds credit card for around 5 years, which she paid a percentage of her balance each month for PPI, as well as a product called "PrivacyGuard", which is an insurance policy targetted to protect her against fraudulent transactions on her account. She was unaware what either was for, and didn't remember much about the discussions she may have had with staff at Lloyds when she opened her credit card account. We discussed her putting in a claim for PPI and PrivacyGuard, but unfortunately she has just passed away, before she had chance to do so. As executor of her Will, am I able to put the claim in on behalf of her estate?

Sorry for your loss. Yes, the executor can handle any complaint. However, there are some restrictions. You cant say what she thought or what was or wasnt said as you have no way of knowing that and no way of proving it. So, stick to factual complaint reasons (eligibility etc)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

So basically stick to the facts as I know them, (including amounts paid on her statements, which I have all of), not including any perhaps or maybes?!0

The amounts paid are irrelevant. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with PPI. You have to show that it was mis-sold and explain your reasons for this.0

This "Privacy guard" thing sounds like she was paying for protection against something the bank had to protect her against anyway, so that would be rather a pointless product.
If your mother was living off a pension (an educated guess) then her income would not have been at risk due to redundancy or ill health and therefore also pointless.0 -
Privacy Guard is one of the things I will be contesting - it is as you say an insurance against fraudulent use of her card, which the banks have to cover anyway. She was on a pension, and also disability benefits at the time when the card was issued, that will be the basis of my claim. Many thanks.0

If you wish to expedite the claim, make sure you supply proof of being the executor and death certificate when you apply, as they will just ask for these when you make the claim.0
