Having a land-line as well as mobile

Options
I am looking at putting a land line in because i've read that it favors you when applying for credit.

Does anyone know which companies report to credit agencies.

I was going to upgrade my Sky package to include phone and broadband but realised that Sky do not report to credit agencies so it would be pretty pointless.

Thanks

I believe the benefit is adding the land line number to applications, not the reporting to credit agencies. Where I used to work it was mandatory to give a landline number for a credit app, even if you didn't pay the bill, a work or parents number would do.

    I may be wrong though

I don't think having a landline makes a difference. Thanks for the tip about Sky though. For me, that's a plus (one less company to screw you up on the credit front).

Incidentally, don't ever divulge your landline/mobile number to companies (some exceptions; airlines you fly with etc.). Put a bogus number in when forced to give a number online.

I kind of wish sky was on my credit report because i'm trying to build mine up to apply for a mortgage in 18 months.

I've read that having a land line shows lenders some security because you are grounded.

Nope never give my number out when it is not necessary. Learnt the hard way before....calls at stupid o'clock

By agreeing to take service from BT you also agree to allow us to share your payment history data with BT with credit reference agencies. If we choose to do so we will share your personal data under contract and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 with recognised and reputable credit reference agencies such as, for example, Experian and/or Equifax.

Having a landline in your own name could provide ID evidence (for address) where banks etc don't accept mobile phone statements.

If you need a geographical number to give people you dont have to have a landline installed.

Go to https://www.sipgate.co.uk and get a completely free voip one for your exchange area. Divert it to voicemail and it will e-mail you when someone leaves a message.

Shame that BT is one of the most expensive companies to go with. The Post office offer £10pm if you pay a year up front for weekend calls. We are in work all week so won't be using the phone until the weekends of we needed too. Does anyone know if the Post Office would report to any of the credit agencies?
