I say ban idiot pedestrians that step out in front of cyclists!0

Zero tolerance would, yes, because those speeders whose attitude increases risk would also be caught in the net. But strict enforcement generally only catches the safe speeders, making our roads less safe as a consequence.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
There is a perception that cyclists travel too fast. I've had that accusation thrown at me when I decide overtake the motorist who pulls out in front of me, yet at about 25mph, I would have been slower than most cars.
Bike brakes will stop a bike as quickly as most cars in the dry. In the wet, we must give ourselves a little more time to react and respond.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
I am sure this will provoke a vigorous discussion, but should we not look at all measures to reduce casualties that happen when speed is involved.
You're absolutely right that we should work hard to make our roads safer. Do you have any statistics on how many serious injuries and fatalities have been caused by cyclists? You may find this helpful.2015 comp wins - £370.25

Thanks to everyone who posts freebies and comps! :j0 -
I'm confused? Surely if we slowed cyclists down, they would hold up cars even more?
I'd be much happier if all cyclists could do a steady 30-35! :cool:0 -
I'm amazed at the idea that self-propelled vehicles might be travelling too fast when motor vehicles can travel at many times their speed!
Speeding is endemic on our roads. All vehicles should be fitted with telemetry devices so that speeding fines can be automatically levied. It would cut the cost of speed cameras and policing, and reduce dangerous driving.
Compulsory CCTV on vehicles would also help the police/insurers identify the causes of accidents. Again, dangerous drivers would be forced off the road, insurance costs would drop, and court costs at the public's expense would also reduce.
Everybody wins (except dangerous drivers)!0 -
I've encountered a lot of speeding cyclists on the pavement, which I quite scary tbh.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I think cyclists should be restricted to a lower speed limit than motorised vehicles.
My reasoning for this to be brought in, is whilst bikes have become lighter and faster, the braking system on most cycles has remained unchanged for many years. I seriously doubt how able many of these cyclists travelling at excessive speed can stop safely, not only for themselves or for other road users especially pedestrians crossing roads.
I am sure this will provoke a vigorous discussion, but should we not look at all measures to reduce casualties that happen when speed is involved.
Do you really believe that.0 -
