I'm looking to get a new ultra portable laptop but not too expensive.
I don't need the highest spec. but want to be able to watch DVDs.
BTW I prefer XP to Vista if possible. 1GB RAM minimum
Long battery life is big bonus.
Any recommendations?

does it need to be a pc or will a dedicated portable dvd player with wi-fi suit your needs ?
If it would then check out what archos have in their range (https://www.archos.com)Signature No Longer acceptable -

yes, it's intended to be used primarily as a PC0

Unfortunately the ultra-portables are more expensive than the not-very-portables. Best one around at the moment** seems to be the Samsung Q35 - over £700.
**IMHO - good balance of features and decent build quality. Also considered the Phillips X59 around £600 at PC World, but reviews a bit mixed (seems to be a bought-in product rather than Phillips designed).0 -
Not a sub-notebook but I've just bought this sony from dabs. Its great.
Not top specs but capable. 2.3Kg. 3+ hours battery life. 13" widescreen, XP media centre, 1Gb RAM, 100GB HDD, Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66Ghz processor. Vista capable(if you want), DVD RW, WiFi.
Oh, did I already say it was a Sony Vaio.
