  • Just had them round after they were doing some work on the street. As it happens, we do need a new front door, and we had been idly looking at getting a new hardwood door (we live in a Victorian terrace, and our current heap of junk is NOT even remotely sympathetic)

The sales guy was very keen on selling us a Guard door (composite) however my partner would much prefer a timber door - I kind of see his point. In the end we were quoted £1200 including a replacement fanlight above the door. The salesman was saying "oh you won't be able to tell it's not a wooden door when it's in.

So, the 7 days have started....what to do?!
It is not the bullet with your name on it, rather the one addressed "to whom it may concern" that should worry you!

The number of times dodgy traders start with "We are just doing some work down the street for the man, you know, with the legs and the face, you know?, anyway ..."

It automatically brings down the "No" shutters on me :)

Half the time, they've been doing no work anywhere, they were actually cruising down the street looking for likely prospects!

If I'm thinking of spending major money on windows, boilers, roofing etc etc then I'll do some research, get some brochures, check websites etc etc....

Why anyone just buys such things cos some stranger knocks on the door and tells them they've got a good deal today is utterly beyond me.
