Hi please can I have a bit of advice? I am wanting to purchase something off Gumtree and pay using Paypal. If the item isn't genuine will I be protected by Paypal? Thanks:beer:

Seriously, don't phone PayPal there is no need.
Assuming item is eligible and you sending as a payment not a gift you will be fine. certain items are not covered, mainly intangible goods and things like cars .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
