Rouge removal firm Easymove

This post relates to Easymove dot co dot uk for the avoidance of doubt as there are several companies of this name.

If anyone is planning a house move and considering using this firm please take a moment to read my post below with my experiences. I have tried repeatedly by phone, email and social media to contact the firm to complain and seek compensation and they appear to have completely vanished.

Various problems including:

-Staff arrived an hour and a half late

-Staff were unprepared for the things we had asked for up front including dishwasher and washer disconnection, wardrobes dismantling

-Staff smoked constantly through day including on the van around our furniture (had to ask them to stop twice)

-Tried to charge us for their travel time from their homes to our first house on the morning of the move despite the agreement being that they would charge for load of of house 1, travel to house 2 and unload of house 2 (they also advertise themselves as a national company but had failed to tell us at booking our move in Leeds that they were based in Leicester which would have meant we were getting charged for 4 hours where they were just in the van getting to and from their base)

-Tried to charge us a higher cost per hour on the morning of the move than had been agreed

-Broke one of our wardrobes in transit and then said they couldn't rebuild it because they only had an hour left to move us before they would need to book a hotel overnight due to long hours (we then found out on rebuilding it several days later that it was actually broken)

-Unprofessional and complained throughout the move (including complaining about their own sales team). Took an unbelieveable amount of breaks and we did most of the unloading. Were clearly trying to rack up more hours so they could charge us more money.

-Further correspondence ignored

-Don't be fooled by the seemingly professional initial conversations you have with the sales team - these movers are cowboys and out to take advantage of movers who they know are at their most stressful point of the process

-Total cost ended up being nearly double what had been agreed up front and they took the money automatically rather than invoicing

If this post helps other people avoid having to go through the same experience it will be worthwhile

Why did you agree a contract on an hourly basis rather than a cost for the job?

How could they take the money 'automatically'? Did you leave a pile of cash lying around and they just took it? Or did you give them carte-blanche to take whatever sum they wished from your bank account?

I thought it was going to be a thread about how to get make up off. Quite disappointed that it's actually something that should be in Praise and Vents (if indeed it was worth writing in the first place).

In fairness to the OP, I am using a very reputable BAR removals company and I had to supply them with my bank card details for payment.

But surely you authorised a specific amount? Maybe the world has completely changed and I've just not noticed!
