European breakdown cover for car & touring caravan

Not sure if this is in the correct forum so please move if it is.
We are going to France for two weeks in the summer and I have been looking at breakdown cover. I got a quote from Red Pennant for around £200 for the two weeks. This would return the car and caravan back to our home in the event of a major problem. The premium seems (well, it is actually!) extremely high.
Could anyone recommend other breakdown companies that would cover both Ireland and mainland Europe? This is our first time touring on mainland Europe and starting to panic a bit!

Does it cover the caravan or trailer breaking down?
UK companies dont cover that unless your a member of the Caravan or Camping club and add it on as an extra.
So your OK if the car breaksdown and teh caravan can be towed behind the recovery truck. But your stuck of the caravans brakes or bearing fails.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I'd have thought so, the brochure says.......The cover extends to motor vehicles not requiring registration. It includes the attached trailer with no more than one axle. Axles which are less than 1.00m apart are regarded as one axle........0

Yeah but when you look into the smallprint it says providing the trailer can be towed.
So if the trailer needs recovery the RAC class it as a commercial recovery they will arrange that for you but you must pay the costs and its not cheap.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
yep, the UK companies seem to try and exclude as much as possible....off road recovery, lost keys, wrong fuel, accidents etc etc.
That's why I'm with ADAC who seem to try and include as much as possible.....all the above plus a heap more
I suppose that's the difference between a profit driven organisation and one which exists to look after their members0 -
Another vote for ADAC. €80 (~£65) for 12 months. Includes trailer/caravan."Retail is for suckers"

We went for the joint membership.
€109 (£88.50) for the year.
The Medical/Repatriation if you fall ill anywhere at all is re-assuring.
My uncle had a stroke when he was on a day trip to Mexico while on holiday in the US of A - getting him home cost an arm and a leg.
The ADAC are the most professional motoring club of them all, bar none.
The make the AA and the RAC seem like Noddy and Big-Ears - but a very overpriced Noddy and Big-Ears.
As for a broken down caravan - I have seen an ADAC transporter carrying a UK car and caravan unloading at Calais, then picking up some other vehicles off the ferry from Dover ready for the return journey.
The ADAC has over 18,500,000 members all over the world.
All the telephone receptionists speak English - I have found no negatives to being a member at all.0 -
Was the caravan being towed or actually on the trailer though?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
