Sainsburys - online groceries

In Wales, Sainsburys charge a standard 40p for single-use plastic shopping bags with any online order regardless of the size of the order. I usually ask, and usually get, a refund of the 40p because they consistently fail to supply sufficient bags. On the last delivery of 18 bottles of wine, (or should that be whine!), I got one bag with 3 bottles in it and the other 15 bottles were loose! 40p for one 5p bag! Scottish stores also charge for plastic bags, N. Ireland also? and it looks as if its coming to England too.
Not only that, I was given 3 more expensive bottles in substitution for 3 that were 50p less each. Sainsburys incorrectly listed the price of the original wine ordered as being 3 for £15 but they were on offer at 3 for £12 and gave me 3 @ £4.50 each claiming they cost less, when they cost more. they also claimed they could, in any case, substitute a more expensive product.
I asked for a refund of £1.90 in an e-mail and in a phone call but was refused both times so I am now lodging a chargeback claim on my Tesco Clubcard credit card for a refund for the 3 bottles of wine and the 40p making £13.90! I told Sainsburys to collect the wine, as when making a previous chargeback claim, I was told by that credit card company that it was for the retailer to collect the items and not for me to deliver them to the retailer. I believe this applies anyway i.e. not just when making a chargeback claim but whenever you are entitled to a refund in law.
Hope this helps others if they find themselves in a similar situation.

I really hope the charge back fails because you have the goods. Albeit a sub, (Which you would have agreed too) and the bank wack a £25 wasting our time on a charge back charge on your account.
Your complaining over 40p (which by the sounds of it is the price of one bag) you were supplied 1 bag!!
You got a sub, They say round these parts get over it.

If you weren't happy with the sub then why didn't you give it back to the driver? They are clearly separated and made clear to you when you get your shopping delivered, you can't keep the wine And get a refund!
Sainsbury's do substitute but charge you the extra if it costs more but that's their policy, tescos ect give to a sub but don't charge the extra, maybe you are confusing the two?:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly

SimonSays - Can't you read properly? I clearly said I told Sainsburys to come and collect the wine, so I am not trying to get a refund and keep the wine as you falsely claim.
Your vain hope that the bank charges me £25 for a false chargeback claim shows how spiteful you are! It simply won't happen.
Single-use plastic bags in Wales are 5p each; ever "bags-for life" are only 6p in Asda. Where have you paid 40p for a single-use bag? If you have, you must be pretty dumb!
You have clearly missed the whole point of my post, which is that Sainsburys are trying to impose rules on their customers to make money out of them unfairly. I forgot to mention that they don't have the cardboard wine carriers in store or for home deliveries, so they are economizing that way too, as well as charging quite a lot more for most of their products compared with the other main supermarkets.
chocdonuty - I did not think of giving the wine back to the driver at the time because I made the mistake of assuming that Sainsburys would not act unreasonably and because I had not realized exactly what they had done at that time.
You have also made the same mistake as SimonSays by falsely claiming that I am trying to keep the wine and get a refund. I am not confused but I think you are!0 -

Given you usually ask and usually get you repeatedly pay 40p for single use bags, so calling someone else dumb, is ummm, pretty dumb.
You don't have to shop at Sainsbury's, in the same way they don't have to accept your business, so a) you can shop elsewhere but you choose not to b) they can refuse to ever do business with you again c) you cannot force Sainsbury's to collect the wine, the T&C's allow for substitutions and you have no right to 'change your mind' - you cannot insist they collect it, as they have done nothing wrong in line with the T&C's you agreed to at point of purchase.
As forYou have clearly missed the whole point of my post, which is that Sainsburys are trying to impose rules on their customers to make money out of them unfairly.
Sainsbury's can impose whatever rules they want, you don't have to shop there and they don't have to let you, they are in business to make money. What exactly is wrong with that?
You are abusing the S75 process IMO and I do hope you get charged for it.
40p, my god I can't believe some people. Its why I would NEVER have my own business.0 -
Just for info Tesco do not charge for carriers used in home delivery( I am in Scotland). I also like the fact that if they give a dearer substitution you are not charged the extra. If I have had to phone cs it is always resolved right away.weight loss target 23lbs/49lb0

Have never been charged for carrier bags by Tesco, on their home deliveries, so change to Tesco.
They provide substitutes at the same price as the original, and do price match/fuelsave as well, which saves us a fortune when we fill the car up.
Much better than Sainsburys.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.

I don't use Sainsburys online shopping as their substitutions are really bad.
I ordered a nice bottle of red wine half price at £5.99. They'd run out, so subbed it for a £10.99 bottle. I either had to reject it (so no glass of wine on a Friday night to get me through my pile of marking!), or cough up the extra £5. Not impressed!
Tesco and Ocado are much better, although Ocado fruit/veg is often rubbish.
Asda were by far the worst at home shopping!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

But from your location, you are in England.
The OP is in Wales, where stores have to charge 5p for carrier bags - so any Tesco (or other supermarket) there will charge just as Sainsbury's do.
The OP appears to be saying that in Wales Sainsbury's add a charge of 40p to cover the bags, but often don't provide the full eight bags that this charge should cover0 -
For all those spiteful and damaged people who want my chargeback claim to fail, it won't - the Distance Selling Regulations over-ride any "rules" Sainsburys care to manufacture - they are not above the Law, as they seem to think they are.
Visdigi - its not S75, its chargeback - another confused poor soul!0 -

So it's your fault then?
I have to say you seem to have gone a bit ott for the sake of .40p.0
