OS Daily thread Saturday 7th June

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Chin up, Titus out.

Morning all
Up at silly o'clock here, hubby & DGD's still asleep, the little bug err I mean darlings didn't go to sleep 'til gone 10, I blame hubby, who likes to feed them ice cream & wind them up to a state of giggling hysteria with games of hide & seek & scary monsters. Because of the courses at school & concerning the LAC's & today's greater awareness he will never hide in the same place as the girls so I'm the one hiding in the wardrobe/understairs cupboard. kitchen cupboard with them, or he hides & we look for him.
Last night I read them 'We're going on a bear hunt' among other stories, when we got to the 'Swirling whirling snowstorm' DGD said 'That's alliteration' she's only 6!
Once asleep they were fine & the 3 year old only woke me once, she anted to go to the toilet & in a strange house, in the dark, couldn't find it, she went straight back to sleep afterwards, as did I. Unfortunately I got a sneezing fit at 3:30 & I'm still awake now.
I shall take hubby to work at 8, DD at 8:15 & then the girls & I will make cakes & some dolls clothes until I take them home around lunch time.
Hugs to those in need.
Have a good day everyone.

Morning :hello:

Our window man popped round yesterday, one of the units has slightly misted. He wasn't impressed when he saw it and ordered another one straight away, as soon as it arrives he's going to swap them for us.

The greenhouses needed a good watering yesterday, I wasn't in them for long (just long enough to pull a few little weeds up) – I opened the doors and aimed the hosepipe in while I was stood outside - but thought I was going to melt :D It was sooo hot.

I'm doing the deep litter method in the chicken shed, I had to turn it all over last night and add more dry things (coffee bean husks are working well). I opened the double doors up to give it a good airing, it was really hot in there. I must pick my timings more carefully for this type of job :D

It's really muggy this morning and there's been thunder and lightning for about 20 minutes. It's just started raining, big fat raindrops :D

LOVE THIS STORY

Had to pop back to let you all know - you're all getting it wrong when it comes to moneysaving. If you want to keep cash in your pocket, follow THIS WOMAN'S ADVICE :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

¡Hola! Buenos Dias

Yes I love that story too Tru
I am up early, but in relative terms nowhere near as early as Tru & HH, as we are an hour ahead of you.

After 3 manic days Tues-Thurs, yesterday was more relaxed, managed to watch the Tennis, unfortunately Murray went out, but still have Nadal ;):D to watch on Sunday.

Have a load of fresh fruit left over from the get together on Wednesday so it is breakfast at the moment, with Greek Yoghurt given to me by someone going back to the UK after their hols, so as OS as you can get. I now start the official use up mode, as will set off on our journey back on Friday morning, so some interesting meals will be coming up. Last night we had a brunch, where I used some bacon which was open up, and DH had a couple of sausages and some chicken with some sliced mushrooms, we had been given, with eggs and tomato, so a brunch, at around 8.30 last night :rotfl::rotfl:

We had Skye groomed to keep her cool, and she looks rather smart. We kept her feather features, but thinned out her main coat, she feels like a bit of suede now. :D

Better get on with the minutes from the Annual Meeting, which is what I got up to do.
((hugs)), spoons, positive vibes Molly, Judi, LW and all others, grab a handful as you pass. Take care everyone. DG

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, some cloud with sun trying to peek through but dry at the moment – forecast rain is later in the day here. Yesterday was lovely got the remaining washing done and line dried and ironed. Bedding done too.

DH up and getting ready to go to his meeting – he’ll be leaving shortly.
Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips and salad for the menfolk, although boys had theirs at dinner time, DH had his when he got in from work late – as it was so late I was going to do him something lighter but he wanted his chicken and ham kievs and chips, so thats what he got. I had mushroom omelette and salad. Tonight we’ll be having HM lasagne, chips/jacket potato and side salad. I have a joint of pork loin for tomorrow’s lunch – we’ll be digging the first of our new potatoes to accompany it, the mint has become established now, so hopefully I can have mint each year – it’s taken years of trying to get it to flourish at this house and our one previously – it would be ok for a short while then die off, and we’d have to start the whole process again, but we’ve got a big planter with it in this time and it’s spread well in there, we thought it had died during the winter, but has come back bigger and stronger.

Was reasonably productive yesterday, had a change around of plans and did the food shopping first thing – SM’s were much quieter, so got round in double quick time and all the shelves were fully stocked. Didn’t spend too much in Aldee but then needed some bits from a mainstream SM that I can’t get in the discount SM’s and I spend nearly as much again – really need to address this – I think going to the butcher and spending 1 big amount on bulk purchases of meat every so often is my way forward – when I buy meat at the SM it seems to cost a fortune is nowhere near the same quality, and when you work out its cost not any cheaper. I will be heading to town shortly to the bank as I didn’t go yesterday.
Once I’ve visited town all I need to do is come home and then do some baking and I’m going to tackle the paperwork and admin that is piling up on my computer desk, I’ll shred what I need to but the pile is growing as soon I won’t be able to see the screen!

Had some good news yesterday a ppi claim offer came in, it’s for loads more than we could ever have dreamed of, so am very happy with that – we’ve signed the paperwork and I just need to send it back to the company concerned – money will be put straight into a bank account of our choice within 7 days of receipt of our letter, it’s really going to make a difference.

Have a good Saturday everyone x

Keep safe and well x

Morning.

Sun is out but there's a low cloud base. The forecast is for sunny periods so here's hoping.

Today I'm off to choose wood for the new fire surround. Very excited! This will be the last major expense for the new home and then we can start to save again.

Need to gets eggs from the farm next door and then just a few things from the local shop. It's a tiny wee shop with post office facilities and really want to support it.

Had my carb binge last night so tonight we will be mostly eating cold meats and salads. Or I have some lovely lambs liver to fry, that sounds tastier.

A friend gave me a buddleia plant recently which is already starting to blossom, it's such a pleasure to see.

After all my 'exertions' I will sitting down to read.

Happy Saturday everyone.
• Morning everyone, we got away with no thunder through the night but have had rumbles since 7ish and torrential rain so we have an extremely anxious lurcher pacing and panting poor old boy. He Who Knows is trying to persuade him out for a quick round the block wee walk but I don't think he'll go. Hope all of you are OK in this extreme weather, I like to watch a good thunderstorm but can understand that others do get scared by them. The gardens here certainly could do with some water so the rain will be very useful. Nothing much planned for today but DD2 has rung to say would we like to go and play with the Zebra child again on Tuesday next week so we jumped at the chance!!! Have yourselves a good day all, Lyn xxx.
