DWP job & CRB check

Hi just wondering if they do basic or standard checks? Had one done recently and I think I was told it was standard (couldn't understand the man very well) but then my friend told me that hers was basic, so we're both a little confused! :p just wondering as obviously the time of how long they take will vary depending on which it is (10 days vs 4 weeks)

Also, has anyone on here worked for the DWP? If so, what is it like? Thanks x

It drags on for weeks and weeks!
I have done 2 FTAs for the DWP. The first time I was told in Feb that I had got the job but I was waiting until July for all the checks.
The second time was a bit shorter as I was still within the 2 years of continual service so I think I waited 6 weeks to start.

Should have said also, Congrats for getting the job. I loved my time at the DWP. I worked in the Jobcentre and in the contact centre.

Everyone I worked with was brilliant and we had a good laugh with lots of social events. I was lucky to work within a very close knit team in both of the roles I had.

    Good Luck!!

No Sorry, FTA is Fixed term appointment :)

You shouldn't be worried. If your start date has already been sorted then you are fine.
I think they do the Disclosures (CRB checks) online now so they don't take so long :)

Ohh right! Thank you you've been really helpful :) sorry to be a pain but do you know if the checks are basic or standard? My friend was told basic and I was told standard, and the standard takes 4 weeks whereas the basic takes 10 days xx

It's not CRB, these days it's DRB. There are two levels, standard and enhanced. Depending on exactly what your role is at the DWP you could have to do either.

As a rule of thumb, if you are working with children or vulnerable adults it will be enhanced. If the application form says that it the position is exempt from the rehabilitation of offenders act, you normally get an enhanced disclosure.

Generally, otherwise you get a standard disclosure.

Oh right :) there was the choice of basic, standard and enhanced on the form

    It definitely wasn't enhanced x

You'll get standard, then. Nothing to worry about; as long as you haven't got caught doing any crimes.

Enhanced can be more dodgy because it can include contacts with the police where there wasn't any conviction...
