Cheap/free days out in Yorkshire or close
Have a toddler and will soon have a baby and was just wondering if anyone knows of any cheap days out in Yorkshire and surrounding area to take little ones on weekends. Preferably somewhere where there is some cover in case weather changes as it has had a tendancy to do for last month or so.
Thanks
Thanks

Have no idea - if you find any let me know!!
I have a 4 yr old daughter and a 1 yr old son, so could do with some ideas myself. Have never been to Cannon Hall Farm, near Barnsley I think, so am considering that. Otherwise if you have a car you might be better off going to the coast for the day, Cleethorpes isn't far and kids love the beach, I got a pop up tent from one of the beach front shops for about a fiver last year so baby was good in that while elder one dug in the sand. Also the little train they have was only about a pound one way and you can wheel the buggy on at the back which is handy. I went by train last year with my friend and both kids, was a bit pricey, so car's probably best.
Depends really on how far you want to travel.
If I think of anything I'll let you know!0 -
thought of another one, Brockholes Farm, Doncaster, have never been, bit pricey for really young kids though.

Have you looked on your local netmums.com website? There are lots of places to visit in and out on there. I've found loads of places in my town I didn't even know existed!0

Meadowhall has a Little Tikes play area which is free. I regularly meet my friend with her twins. It's right next to a pound shop where we get ourselves 2 cans of pop and crisps / chocolate (4 things for a pound - bargain) and watch the kids play. Not been since the floods though, but Little Tikes is washable and sturdy so I guess it'll be back open. Oh and there's a separate area for little ones. DS has been going since he was tiny (he's 3 and a half now) He loves it.
Brockholes Farm is lovely. The outdoor park at Magna Science Adventure Centre isn't bad value either.0 -
We like Lotherton Hall which is off the A63 between Leeds and Selby. We have never actually been inside the hall but regularly go there for the free to enter Bird Garden which is impressive with vultures, owls and flamingos to name but a few!!Our two year old loves it and a recent addition is a large outdoor playground, not much good if it rains though.Take a picnic as there is a large grassed area with deers in the next field!!Enjoy yourselves, Foxy. http://www.leeds.gov.uk/lothertonhall/A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

Wentworth Garden Centre in South Yorkshire is nice for toddlers - it has a good play area and lots of grounds to play and picnic in. Car parking is free. It also has a small farm at the side of it which is great for small kids. Mine used to play for hours when they were little. They have tractors and little tykes type houses etc as well as the animals, and I dont think its very expensive.0

last time I went to Wentworth, we took our daughter who was frightened by the huge pigs and wouldn't go round the animal bit then! Are they still as big?!0

a little late I know but, how's about
Eureka...fab kids science museum in Halifax if you haven't got children ...borrow them for this one
Oakwell Hall museum Birstall, have lots of walks and fun days for kids in the holidays, mine loved it
Keighley steam railway...one for the dads
York Railway museum
Kirklees light railway...has Thomas trains especially at weekends
Media museum Bradford...loads of interactive stuff
and our favourite is MAGNA at Rotherham...we even bought a yearly pass! and for those really short of money, it has a free playground and picnic area with a super climbing frame
Harewood House has some quite good events and a great playground for the kids, although it can be a lttle expensive if you want to see the whole thing0 -
