Barclaycard payment

Can anyone help with the following question. In March of this year my husband booked two return flights with Thomas Cook to Goa at a cost of over £1400 flying out in January 2015. He paid the amount in full with his Barclaycard as there is no option to pay just a deposit. In May of this year my husband was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer which required immediate surgery which was carried out within 2 weeks of his diagnosis. He is now awaiting a course of radiotherapy which will be over the next two months.
I contacted Thomas Cook immediately we found out about the illness and asked if they would, under the circumstances, consider refunding either part or all of the cost of the flights . They refused even though I explained to them the circumstances. I even asked if on this occasion and the fact that we had booked flights with them on several occasions to India, they could reconsider and show some compassion. There answer was no but we could change the dates to an alternative holiday.
I just wondered if anyone would know whether Barclaycard would consider refunding the cost or whether we should just forget about the whole thing. Any advice would be appreciated. We did not take out travel insurance as this diagnosis happened 10 days after we booked the flights.
Thanks

That's more of an insurance claim that you'd make. It doesn't hurt to ask BarclayCard and explain your circumstances, if you've been a good customer to them they might try and help you out a bit, but I can't see them refunding the whole £1,400.
I wish you and your husband all the best
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

No, they won't consider refunding as they have absolutely no reasons for doing this.
This is a typical case for travel insurance that could/should have been bought as soon as you booked the flights.0 -
OP can you confirm whether your husband had travel insurance in place when purchasing the flights? - perhaps as part of a bank account package?
If not in reality the money is lost - Barclaycard or the airline have done nothing wrong.0 -
