Our DMP seems so long compared to others, 14 years 7 months! Hopefully we will shorten that once baby's born and I'm working again.
When I signed up in April mine was 20 years! It's now 6 years 7 months and I'm about to pay my 4th month. I went from a payment of £40 to £130 once tax credits sorted themselves out and started to give us £32 a week(technically I owe them £1600 too but it's taken from the award so not really relevant to the DMP)
Breathe, relax and take it as it comes. If it takes 14 years then so be it. Chances are it'll be gone a lot sooner. Once you are logged into SC there's a tool to see how much quicker debt freedom comes if you increase payments. It's really good to see so easily it can be done.

Thanks to those who responded to my letter writing crisis last night. As soon as I submitted the post it hit me and the letters were done in 5 minutes. I did have trouble with the first few words, admitting I'm in a pickle I guess.
Gettinggoing - I posted them today and yes, lets hope for favourable responses for both of us - and of course all others in the same boat.0 -
Kate_fixing_it wrote: »The lions share of my debt is with HSBC (overdraft, loan and credit card) they're pretty useless. They obviously have a library of automated letters to send (I have too now;)) and they don't communicate between departments. I was called about all three accounts on one day.
But... They stopped interest on my card immediately. After my 3rd DMP payment they stopped interest on the overdraft and refunded the previous month and the loan was front loaded to there's been nothing added to that. They've been threatening to default and pass to collections since April. They'll get there eventually I suppose.
From what I gather they're account system doesn't work in tandem with their communication system. I kept a record of the time and date of each call along with the name of the person I spoke to (as advised here) and reading that back to them on the third call I received soon shut them up.
Try not to worry about them folks, they're far to slow and lazy to be a real problem

If DCAs are tantruming toddlers then HSBC are stroppy teenagers. At first they grunt and groan but eventually they stay in bed until noon, make half-hearted attempts to help clean up the mess and then retreat to their bedrooms and venture out once in a while to be fed and grumble "it's not fair" :rotfl:
The people I've spoken to have actually been quite lovely but their processes are disorganised at best. Almost all calls have resulted in them apologising to me - usually for the contents of those automated letters.
In a few weeks you'll be asking HSB-who?

First DMP payment came out today
1/89 payments made.
Although it could be a lot less than that, got told today there is an opportunity for a night manager placement in a store near me I am being strongly considered for (been on their development program for a while now). With a bit of luck I'll get it and complete it succesfully (3 - 6 months). £10k jump in pay if I do0 -
Hello Suseka, sorry you are feeling down. Be gentle with yourself and remember you are doing what you can with what you have. One step at a time. I second the going for a walk recommendation. It helps me stop brooding for definite! I sometimes talk to myself and even have quite sensible conversations on a walk
Something about the physical act of moving forward helps me feel less stuck.
Well done everyone who's just starting out. The time goes faster than you think it will and any little extra payment you can make really does help.Debt at highest - June 2013 - 26k/ March 2018 - 2500

Hi y'all... thanks for the kind messages, bum kicks and hugs. It's just what I needed. This is the only place I can talk about my DMP and the emotional turmoil it creates at times. My OH is a lovely man and able to seperate this all from other parts of his life, whereas for me the DMP, work and family issues all merge into one.
I think the antidepressants I'm on have contributed to my weightgain and so by coming off them (albeit slowly and worrying about the possible mood swings) should help. Hopefully that coupled with a proper healthy weightloss programme and a bit of exercise should start to turn things around. I used to be a size 16 and I'm a size 20 right now so I've grown by two dress sizes in just 12 months
I've only a few more hours left at work today and then I'm having a long weekend. I aim to refocus on the good things and be more positive.
Sazzie23 - you're right about the past, there's nothing I can do with that, but I can affect the future.
So again - thanks all and although I'm signing off for the weekend I'll be back to contribute soon.LBM: March 2013 / DMP Start: 1 July 2013 / 14 Creditors
