Ooh I missed a few days and there's a whole load of cheering progress been made! well done all... I have a pie chart and use that to show percentage paid off and it's very satisfying when I update it.

    Also welcome new people!

    Hi CMC

I really admire folk like TTfTm who are self managed, and can see the benefits, but I would never have got to 33% debts paid without SC. I have been able to make some additional payments to creditors without it being an issue. However it ever became an issue, now I would consider going self managed using the NEDCAB site for templates. At the moments it's not a problem so I haven't made that move, but it's something to consider I the future.

One of the greatest tips I got from this thread has been the spreadsheet which I update weekly (and look at every day:o). Then every month I update SC on line to make sure those totals are the same. I really don't want any nasty surprises:eek:

Lots of happy times ahead CMC is this bubba 1?. I think DMP really changes your life, but I suspect the bubba may make even more of an impact. :D

Thank you. I'm feeling amazingly calm about finances at the moment which is very unlike me! I'm usually very anxious.

I'm self-employed and my income can fluctuate a lot. With the DMP in place we will be much more able to manage our budget.

This will be our third baby. I'm very excited and now how children can make things like this seem unimportant. However they make me more determined to get out of this mess and show them how to manage money. As a child money was never talked about but we always had lots! My Dad is quite well off but he never taught me how to control my finances. Credit cards were easy to get and the limits constantly increased. I take full responsibility for my actions though.

We haven't yet sent of the DMP paperwork as I'm waiting for the new bank account to be up and running. August we won't be making any payments for the first time which will no doubt prompt letters and phone calls. The first DMP payment will probably be 1st September.

    Hi Guys

Its been a while posting (2010 to be precise)

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2538103

Its been 4 years now on a DMP with a super scary balance (when I started with Stepchange was approx 160,000 in unsecured home loans, credit cards etc with my partner

If anybody new on here I was in pieces and didnt know where to turn. Now the balance is around 44,000 and with an estimated debt free date of March 2016 which is not long. Its been a struggle but I would recommend anyone to seek help once you think its spiralling out of control. No mountain is hard to climb ( I mean look at my debt!)

Hang in there everybody and stay positive.

Wow! That's fabulous! Such amazing progress! :T :T I love posts like this, really reinforces that if you just keep pushing you'll get there.

I genuinely believe that the actual figures are (in most cases) immaterial - we're all fighting our own battle but I do love a good success story :D 2016 will be here before you know it.

Thank you for posting, I (for one) am very impressed with such a huge achievement and and grateful for the inspiration.

You're sounding like an "old hand" already :) dare you to go back and re-read your initial posts, I'll bet my backside you'll come back grinning at the progress you've made ;)

You sound so upbeat in this short post. I absolutely love the positive posts from others and whilst there's a wistful "wish it was me" fleeting thought I know it will be soon :)

If it's any consolation I had a similar financial upbringing but without the income to support it :( you are certainly not alone in having a poor financial education at a young age (with no disrespect at all intended there). I had no clue how to budget or take responsibility until my LBM and I'm now 36!

But look forward. Look at what we are doing. We are taking charge, accepting responsibility and teaching the next generation. My biggest lesson was want vs need and I pound this into my kids - even the 5 year old (the scary one ;)) gets a lecture on the subject if she claims she needs something.

I accept that I undoubtedly screw up in all kinds of new weird and wonderful ways and I'm not as strict as I perhaps should be but I never want my offspring to feel the way I did last October.

Glad to hear you are feeling calm (and in control?) definitely good for baby to be and babies already here. And I don't care what anyone says, they'll always be my babies even if two of them are already bigger than me ;)

Absolutely amazing, at one point you must have thought this was going to be impossible, but at almost 75% debt gone that DFD is so close you can almost touch it. We love inspiring posts, come back soon and count it down with us :D

I think having a plan promotes the calmness and not having to think endlessly to figure out what to do reduces the tiredness which helps the anxiety as well, so bubbs3 will be getting lovely calm vibes.

If you are going down the SC route, remember that the payment to SC goes out on 1st or 8th of month, but creditors don't receive payment until 25th, so you may be missing an extra payment in Sept which shouldn't be a problem but you might need to do an extra token payment. In case you are wondering I think the idea of token payments is to show that you intend to pay and are not deliberately avoiding payment.

My parents were very short of money due to being self-employed & illness etc, unfortunately I think that had a bad effect when I grew up and found I could buy whatever I wanted on CC etc, so despite their best efforts I didn't learn good skills from my folks (RIP), but I did learn good morals and that's why I'm here as I intend to pay it all back. ;)
