Had the conversation with the OH and dispite my serious reservations she is sticking by me, feel like the luckiest man on earth.
She is clearly let down and angry but appreciates my efforts to get back on my feet. She's sad and confused that I felt unable to tell her sooner or how I got into this position.
But she is being supportive, feels like a weight lifted, but replaced by the hard work to come to try and repair the damage.
Thank you for your support on here too, still a lot of work to get this shifted0 -
I knew things were going to well I began my dmp in april and all creditors had accepted the offers and stopped interest except Barclaycard who reduced it to 3 % per annum. Bang boiler has gone bang it is 28 years old and has to be replaced. I have had various quotes the lowest is £1600,MY hubby will over his half but I have to find the other half, the guy will accept payments over 2 months but to do that will mean cutting the money I pay the dmp from £520 to £120 for the next 2 months. I have contacted paypal to discuss it and are waiting for the call back , so frustrated but should have realised it would nt be so easy GRrrrr.
Hi Teeni, ouch that's annoying, good to hear from you though. Its a little setback that's all, at least you can raise the boiler money by cutting the DMP payments, think how it would be if you weren't even paying that much?
The creditors will cope, it'll add a couple of months to your DFD but in the end it's doable and that's what matters. Better than getting a pdl or putting it on your cc which is probably what would have happened before.
It's also a timely reminder to anyone starting out about getting an emergency fund before you start your DMP, ( however I think most folk would have struggled to cover the full amount),Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Yeah good news Jon, it's got to be better to be able to share stuff, especially if you are the type of couple that shares stuff. Secrets can be destructive, so, out in the open is a bonus. It probably wasn't easy for you to speak up, so well doneDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

I've just been on the new look forum, the front page of the thread appears on the top of each page. I'm flatter some folk think my newbie post from Jan would be good, but I think it's a bit long to be on every page. Shall we see if we can come up with something a bit more succinct, I can always paste the newbie message as the second post to the new thread if Fernie saves us space.Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Hello Everyone!
Heard from all creditors now who have agreed to payment plan and frozen all interest and charges as long as I keep up with the repayments. So as good as it can be on a DMP, lets hope it continues :-)

You would think that after 4 years on our DMP I’d be a little bit more clued up, but it appears not! We’ve just taken everything on face value and been grateful that we’re paying off our debts slowly but surely. I’ve never challenged those companies that have never froze interest, SC told me it was what it was but after reading this thread I can see that we were not given the best advice. We’re hoping to pay off our DMP at Christmas (parents giving us an interest free loan) but can I / is is worth still challenging those creditors that are charging us? Do you think I’d stand any chance of asking them to take historical interest charges off and use that money towards repaying the debt or is that just pushing my luck?0

For the price of a stamp there is no harm in asking!
Good luck.
