Blistering Blue, hope you get boiler sorted soon. Thank goodness its not winter eh?
Jon81, hope everything went ok for you.
Thanks everyone for suggestions re the phone calls.
Well I managed to contact them this morning. Just told them I was in discussion with Stepchange and gave them Stepchange reference no. He said they will take me off phone list but will contact me monthly because I will be in arrears! Told him I can't always answer phone as I'm a carer.
Went and got postal orders today to send off to creditors. Is it a good idea to send them recorded delivery or would proof of postage be alright? 50p charge for each postal order. Blimey.
I'm going to send token payments for a couple of months. I need to get some reserve money together. Will need new tyres for car soon plus rear brakes need doing.
Patch, Dad was so young 61. My hubby passed away at 66. Very sudden. That's when all my debt problems started I think. Kept thinking I'd get myself sorted but it just went from bad to worse. Heyho I'm doing something about it now.
Have a good day everyone
Thanks, timetosayenough - my OH's grandmother was taken ill to hospital over the weekend and was visitng yesterday so didnt seem apropriate. She knows i need to talk to her about something so will likely be tonight - am dreading it as likely end of marrage0 -

BB & Puzz,
I am interested in defaults and trying to get defaulted asap as I have 16.5 years left on an £186k mortgage which I am paying via NRAM on SVR so am unable to remortgage to a better or fixed rate. So in 6-7 years time, I would like to remortgage which is why the defaults are important to me.
Apologies if you feel i am detracting from the real subject of this thread and will keep my questions and comments on defaults to a minimum :-)

xx
Kid77, I'm pretty much in the same boat. Not identical - we are already on the SVR but would love one day to move to a bigger house for our munchkins So whilst of course paying the debt back is by far more important (I never ever want to see another credit card again in my life!) it would be good to get defaults as soon as possible for the sole purpose of eventually being able to move on
I love this thread so much by the way :A I've read so much that all the long term posters are almost like mini celebrities to me!
Jon81 - really sorry to hear thatGood luck tonight.

Hi all
Great news - official default letter received from Halifax today for DH loan. They said it would take up to three months, so timings just about right. Bring on the restDFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -
Evening everyone
Sazzie - That's good to hear about the post. Ours sometimes goes next door because of the way the house is addressed, so didn't want them getting annoyed more than anything (and the paranoid part of me doesn't want them being nosy and holding the letters up to a window and finding out what a mess we're in haha!).
Timetosayenough - Sounds like you're making good progress with everything. Glad you managed to speak to someone finally. Fingers crossed they'll leave you alone now. Sorry to hear about your husband. Hate how cruel life can be.
Jon81 - Hope the talk with your wife goes as well as can be expected.
Seraphelle - Hi! I'm new here too (starting with StepChange on 1st August, all being well). The people here have been an amazing support.
Phoned SC today with some last minute questions so we're now ready to post everything off tomorrow. Scary stuff! Whilst looking through for account numbers etc I discovered that one of the debts is £130 less than I thought - it all helps! Need to buy some postal orders tomorrow for the two token payments that need to be made before the plan starts, write letters to go with them and get them in the post asap.0 -
Quick update.
Phoned the credit card people (I've got 2) they're with my bank. Nice young girl was really sympathetic, said they would be defaulted after 3 months. And to keep in contact with them. Need to let bank know as well cos I've got an overdraft but want to wait until next week to make sure money goes into new bank.
Well done Patch, you've got the ball rolling.£12,432 - debt free February 2018 :j0 -
I thought I would also share some successes which I have had recently.
I appreciate that what I am going to post will in some corners be unpopular but is relevant none the less.
In getting to grip with my finances and following counciling I decided to take a closer look at my credit file.
Apart from it being truely appalling I also looked at the borrowing I had taken, when for how much and when it was settled
I have to be honest and say that the amount of payday loans was astonishing and again felt sick as to how much trouble I have got myself in but led me to ask a question
Were the lenders adequately checking my credit file and making appropriate decisions.
I wrote to all of the lenders who appeared on my file, and I have started to have responses -
Lending stream have refunded 50 as took consecutive loans in the same month
Mr lender have written off my remaining balance which is with stepchange
Now as will be pointed out responsible lending goes hand in hand with responsible borrowing but I think it a worthwhile question to be asking of lenders - were their decisions appropriate or compounding the issue.
I continue to work with stepchange on my outstanding amounts but I am awaiting further responses from other lenders as to the same question being posed to them
Hi Jon,
I know this was a little while ago this was posted but do you have templates of the letters you sent to the PDL companies?
I'm paying most of my DMP to PDLs and any little would help with getting rid of this debt.
I don't feel as guilty asking for anything from PDLs as their willingness to lend irresponsibly (to me anyway) is a big factor in the mess I got myself in!0 -
I knew things were going to well I began my dmp in april and all creditors had accepted the offers and stopped interest except Barclaycard who reduced it to 3 % per annum. Bang boiler has gone bang it is 28 years old and has to be replaced. I have had various quotes the lowest is £1600,MY hubby will over his half but I have to find the other half, the guy will accept payments over 2 months but to do that will mean cutting the money I pay the dmp from £520 to £120 for the next 2 months. I have contacted paypal to discuss it and are waiting for the call back , so frustrated but should have realised it would nt be so easy GRrrrr.0

Hi All, Been a while....
Lloyds OD was a 6 month temp arrangement accepting SC payments. They written to say thats nearly done and the OD will be removed so pay up or call to advise if still having issues.
Will send a letter to advise statement of affairs is the same and that SC payments will continue as normal so please carry on as we were for longer.
Can anyone see me having any problems? I have also asked them to default me as they have done with the loan so used the treat each debt the same line from FOS there but making sure I don't get charges next month the priority.
On a good note the loan is finally with recoveries. No interest for last two months, and about £700 in backdated interest refunded off the balance of the loan and default is all backdated so thats was a blinding result.LBM October 2014  DMP with StepChange as of March 2015

Evening all.
Just reminding newbies to check your statements regularly.
I never received statements from Natwest. I called them yesterday to try and settle my o/d... To be told they had sold my debt to a third party last January (I never received notification). After a few phone calls I have now got the 3rd party to deduct the payments that Natwest were still accepting off my debt... That's a couple of hundred £'s
