OK panic stations today!! I have been in a DMP since last year, everything going ok-ish, never missed any payments. Just got a letter from BC stating they are sending me a Formal Demand and passing my debt on to a debt collecting agency. What does this mean for me? Am I likely to have someone knocking on my door?!
  • Don't panic Lightthelamp, most of my debts have been passed to collection agencies and I've never had anyone knocking on the door. Just let your DMP arranger know who to send the monthly payments too instead and all will be well x

Thank you Almost-there! It all sounded very scary, I will speak to step change and let them know.

I have had a bit of a change of events as well - I wrote to all my creditors saying I was reducing payments due to x,y and z and basically sat back and waited for bad things to happen (despite having been doing this for two years I still get the fear every now and then) and have heard from all of them (by letter as requested) have had interest stopped temporarily by MBNA and i&e forms from all creditors - now I'm trying to forget that they have had all this before and the positive I am taking is that even hellifax have sent an i&e form (I have had an ongoing battle with them to even accept I am struggling so this feels like a major breakthrough).... so I'm seeing this as the start of phase three of my dmp (phase one, payplan, phase two, going self managed and this is phase three, reduced income but grim determination!...)

hopefully the reduced interest I am paying (and the full interest with hellifax) will now be reconsidered.... watch this space...

another go on the dmp rollercoaster for me please!

    Hi everyone

I've noticed a few posts lately which make me think the average age of a DMPer is probably higher than I'd assumed, simply because we are mentioning retirement and pensions so I wondered if anyone would be willing to take part in a quick straw poll.

I was 52 when I started My DMP
I have been on a DMP for 5 years in July and have approx. 20 months left but working on finishing it sooner

Hi - I love these survey things

    Age DMP started 45
How long since DMP start? 3 years 9 months
How long left on DMP? 2 years 10 months

We should've done it years ago. Is hard work but has to be done. I am in the rare point in the year when all 5 jobs are still running. Job 4 ends on Wednesday which is a relief. I am full on in Jobs 1,2 and 5 with 3 just getting going again. Sometimes I forget my own name!!:rotfl:
    DMP since August 2011
DFD January 2018 hopefully sooner :j
    Debt at start: £98769:eek:
    Debt now: £24993:o
    Paid back: £73776 :j
Taking it one day at a time:T

Thanks Phoenix, go steady, I hope you use these same name in each job or you really will get confused. Seriously though, it's easy too burn out, so do take care.

Mid 40's seems a very common theme, but maybe that's just because we are thread users ?

I think seeing retirement approaching is a factor in the realisation that it's DMP or bust ?
