Its nice to read all these positive posts as we are about to start on our DMP journey....My goal will be to try and shave a few years, or even a few months, of of ours. I know it can be done and will be worth it, although at the moment I still feel in turmoil, trying to sort out new bank accounts and DD's and letters to creditors etc.

Had a phone call from a lovely lady at SC earlier, as I had raised a couple of questions via email, which I thought was lovely and she managed to answer all my queries and definitely put me at ease. I am hoping to get everything sorted for a start date of March 10th, but still awaiting confirmation of the new joint account details and then need to get DD's transferred over, as can't do switching service as we have an OD at out current bank. So not sure if this will all be sorted in time or not....I did think about leaving it till April 1st, but that does seem such a long time to wait and will add quite a bit onto our DMP length. Still at least we are on the right track..am getting there slowly.

    Hello Ploppy

I watch and read your posts as we are starting our debt free journey with StepChange at the same time and I find myself almost comparing where we both are in the journey to get the ball rolling. I am worrying about the date we start our DMP and although I've printed off the forms for StepChange I'm almost scared to fill them in and send everything back because I want to squirrel a bit of money away for this emergency fund everyone on here says we will need. We do have a bit put by now, but only a couple of hundred. We were going to sell my car and buy a cheaper one but decided we know our car is good even though it's six years old as we have had it from new and it has low mileage. We are worried about selling it and buying something that costs more in the long run in repairs etc.

Anyway - just wanted to say I am keeping you company along the way:beer:

Feeling utterly dreadful with a sort of "snot-less" flu so this was a very welcome email from SC this morning. On the plus side the very last thing I want to do is go near a shop so I'm spending nothing (and it's really hard to shop when you're sleeping 18-20 hours out of 24 ;))

Big hello to all newbies and huge congratulations on all the fabulous milestones. If I could leap around squealing I would (but I'm only moving off this sofa to take my mum to a support group and DD2 to her dance class until Monday;))

    Have a great weekend everyone

You know the letters advising creditors that we are only making a £1 token payment? Do you just send them to the main address from credit card statement or do they need to go to a particular dept?...like collections or something?? Seems hard to find addresses for some of them

Hi, yes just send to the address you have on statements. Ensure you keep copies/save originals just in case you need them for the future.

Hey everyone, should i just forget about halifax not stopping interest and continue to pay SC?

Its a 25% clarity loan (i know :( ) so was really hoping they would at least reduce the interest.

My normal loan payment is £371 and SC are giving them £332 so this might be why they are not reducing the interest?

    Hi Jono,

Hellifax are my largest creditor, cc and clarity loan. They froze my interest after I complained to the CEO directly via email and they also defaulted my accounts which is what I wanted.

    You could try this route?

Halifax are worrying me as we both have a CC with them. How did you find email address for the CEO?

    Hi Ploppy,

I have PM'd it to you. I think I got it from the FCA's website in the first instance.

    At a guess thorough Google!
Don't panic about Halifax as they sold my debt within 3 months to a dca so no interest. Concentrate on the here and now. Get ready for battle if you need too.

Thought I would get that in as one of the nominations for "post of the month".

Am truly humbled folks by all the kind words and I didn't know there was such a thing as post of the month, so being nominated is just amazing, and I cried (I cry at everything).

These forums and this thread in particular have kept me going through some of the toughest times of life (like many, debt is only one part of my troubles) and help me keep my worries in perspective.

Amazing positivity from Puzz, Ellie and Karen with milestone forecasts, shrinking DFD and debt busting all round, I wish everyone who posts, reads and supports the thread a truly debt busting 2015.
Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

  • Hello all,

Spent about 30 mins reading through these posts as not been on in the last couple of days.

Thanks so much for all your words of support, encouragement and sharing wisdom.

It's great to hear other people's stories and how they have dealt with their debt and are reducing them. It's also great to read other people who are just starting on this journey.

This is the first morning I have woken up and not felt a huge knot in my stomach. So again thank you all for your help.

I know the journey is not going to get be a smooth ride but I finally feel hopeful at facing it. :)
