Just read more posts further back than I had before and Ellie - I was reading your post about being debt free next year and feeling so pleased for you and then realised that - barring disasters- I too will be debt free next year! I can't believe it! Am scared to believe it as haven't been debt free since I was 18 but still - it could well and may well happen. I need a cup of tea to take this in I think. I haven't dared let myself think too much about the end but now am in the 10s (thousands) I am going to look bravely forward..... thanks for making me realise that with your post!
I know what you mean about not daring to think about the end. I have always had milestones along the way but avoided getting too far in front incase things went wrong. My next big milestone is to reach 15k and it isn't that far away (March 2015). I have now calculated that with a bit of jiggery-pokery I'm sure that I can shave a couple of months of our DFD.
We will reach our 5th anniversary with Stepchange in July - we started in 2010 with a DFD of November 2021 and have managed to cut the original date by almost 5 years, so it can be done.

Sazzie amaze post for newbies we all remember that fear of panic and unknown .... still do sometimes!
Me well hopefully boiler will be fixed but its gonna cost me. Have managed to hold off reducing my SC payment this month as our car packed in last year so dont want them thinking i go and blow out at xmas and look for help in Jan.
Also BOS have passed the O/d to Capquest so if i can save a bit up i think i will have a fair chance of offering a better F+F rate and that gets one ( all be it the seriously smallest debt off the list.
and best of all its Friday i started with really a bit of a crap week... not going to let it finish like that have a good one all.LBM Sept 2012

Its nice to read all these positive posts as we are about to start on our DMP journey....My goal will be to try and shave a few years, or even a few months, of of ours. I know it can be done and will be worth it, although at the moment I still feel in turmoil, trying to sort out new bank accounts and DD's and letters to creditors etc.
Had a phone call from a lovely lady at SC earlier, as I had raised a couple of questions via email, which I thought was lovely and she managed to answer all my queries and definitely put me at ease. I am hoping to get everything sorted for a start date of March 10th, but still awaiting confirmation of the new joint account details and then need to get DD's transferred over, as can't do switching service as we have an OD at out current bank. So not sure if this will all be sorted in time or not....I did think about leaving it till April 1st, but that does seem such a long time to wait and will add quite a bit onto our DMP length. Still at least we are on the right track..am getting there slowly. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hey everyone, should i just forget about halifax not stopping interest and continue to pay SC?
Its a 25% clarity loan (i know) so was really hoping they would at least reduce the interest.
My normal loan payment is £371 and SC are giving them £332 so this might be why they are not reducing the interest?0 -
Morning all
Newbie message
If you are having trouble with creditors, :mad:eg Lloyds troubles BDF, when they shift to a DcA I'd continue to pay, the payments seem to get to where they should eventually, but if you are worried, send a recorded delivery letter to the collections team at the creditor, quoting your account number and SC ref and saying this is what is happening, these are the payments that have been made, please make your sure your accounts are up to date and let ask them to reply to you in writing so you have confirmation. It does take several months for an account to get over from creditor to DcA and often the information is limited but it's just like the original set up and the DcA will let you know to change the payments in SC, and you can just log in and do it.
I hope this helps, there are lots of scenarios I haven't covered, but in the main it's grit your teeth, keep plodding through and it will all settle down.
One day soon, you will be able to say like EllieI will be debt free next year :j:j
Fantastic post Sazzie - thank youx

You know the letters advising creditors that we are only making a £1 token payment? Do you just send them to the main address from credit card statement or do they need to go to a particular dept?...like collections or something?? Seems hard to find addresses for some of themThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi Ploppy
I don't know if I'm doing this right or not, but I have been sending the letters through the message system on each of my online accounts. I have received prompt answers advising they will hold the accounts for 30 days pending contact from StepChange etc. That way I didn't have to worry about stamps, recorded delivery etc etc. and I have an email trail that they have been received and responded to (as I get an email advising me I have a message waiting on my online account).DFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0
