Hello again, my DMP has started, not yet heard from creditors but stupidly i forgot to cancel one of the subscriptions on my credit card so 9.99 has just been deducted from my natwest credit card. Will this effect my DMP at all as i am technically still using the card? Thank you

    Hi Jono,

I can't see that your DMP would be affected by a one-off transaction.

It's probably worth you checking any other subscriptions though to stop this accidentally happening again.

Also maybe worth giving Natwest a call to see if they can cancel your card / freeze your account to stop any other transactions on there if youre not sure what else you've got set-up against the account?

    cheers

    I need some advice.

I'm really struggling with the feeling of guilt. I'm in a stable position whereby my dmp is up and running (apart from the blip today which is now sorted), I have a clear plan, a goal and the end is in sight. I also have a wonderful OH who is not in financial difficulty, and keeps doing lovely things like filling my car with petrol when he can, paying for the grocery shopping, and now paying for the repairs on my car.

But that's where the guilt lies. He says that he wants to do all these things to support me, but I feel like I'm holding him back from spending his money on himself, or saving up for a deposit for a house. I just feel so useless all the time. I'm so used to being extremely independent and not needing anyone to help me financially, and now I feel like I rely on him so much. I don't want him to feel like he's just a crutch for me.

Have any of you experienced this feeling of guilt? How do you get over it?

    Thanks x

hi just looking for abit of advice really. I have applied for a DMP with step change. waiting for the forms to sign in the post. on the plan they came up with my debt payments will be reduced from£600 a month to £170. it just seems to good to be true! does it really work? im nervous about creditors hounding me once its put into place. what will happen? im feeling really over whelmed right now after finally looking at all my statements and figuring out just how much debt I have.

Hi Mrs-s. Yes generally it does work! In the early stages you may well receive calls and letters, just state you are looking at DMP with SC quote your reference number and leave it there. Your creditors wil be aware that you have completed I and E with SC and the amount you are paying is reasonable. Beware all creditors do not stop interest and although SC may ask they can't insist. It is up to you to check your balances regularly and challenge when necessary, I learnt this to my cost. Good luck:)

No hounding, once set up you get the odd grumble occasionally but mostly they keep quiet. DMP screws whatever is left of your credit rating but unless you want a mortgage it probably doesn't matter.
It's your chance to learn to properlyl budget, as well as pay off the debt.

Overwhelmed is normal at this stage, well done for posting, and come back if you have questions or just to chat.

  • Morning DMP'ers. I have been on a DMP for 9 months. I have received a letter from Halifax stating that they are passing my account to their recoveries team but as a temporary concession will allow me to keep making my monthly reduced payments.

Is this anything to be concerned about? Is it just their way of saying they will be passing it to a DCA? Halifax have been the worst lender to deal with under my DMP.

  • Hello all! Sent off my dmp application details to Step Change yesterday via signed for and sent two letters to creditors informing of DMP. I am going to check my wages have gone into my basic bank account and it's all go from there! I still feel very nervous as not sure what my creditors are going to do!

I am wondering should I call StepChange today to provide them with all my account details or wait until they have recieved my application?

    Thanks.

    Hi Coinmachine,

Halifax are so far the only creditor of mine where the debt has passed to a dca.. mine went to Apex I think they were called. Had no issues with them at all, spoke to a lovely man who confirmed to just keep paying and interest would now be permenantly frozen.. So hopefully the same for you..!

I thought when you sent the application back you sent the account details with it? Was this the pack they send you? Either way give them a call they will have the definitive answer for you..! Well done on getting started. :T

  • Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your advice here it is so lovely that there are people around wanting to help others :-)

I've posted a thread on the main board, but not yet had a reply. I was just wondering if anyone know what the process should be for asking a creditor To put default on your credit record? Are there any templates anywhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you
