    They're certainly creative!

Sorry if I disturbed any of you with my ranting last night ;) HSBC got a 30 minute last night. Seriously, why do they provide such poor training for their call centre staff???

I had to explain the process of BACS payments, recalling and bounced payments to the person I spoke to! It's not a long convoluted process but she simply didn't know. I work in corporate finance (Yeah - ironic! I handle millions of transactions a day but failed to manage my own finances) and this is a very minor part of my job that I know inside out.

I have been promised a priority 1 call back in 2 working days.

By the time I'd got off the phone creation were closed so they'll be getting it tonight ;)

I knew what you meant :) I wasn't nasty, just factual. It wasn't her fault that the company she works for didn't provide adequate training but it's a sad day when customers have to educate the people we're calling for help.

Missed creation again! Will try to call today if I can escape my desk at all. It's financial half year end so after a full day and a couple of hours in the evening yesterday today is looking the same :( The long hours and hard work is hopefully cementing my application for a couple of jobs that are coming up over the next two weeks - right before there's a restructure. There will possibly be voluntary redundancy available but DH and I have discussed this and it's not for me. I've been there 4 years so I wouldn't be offered enough to clear the debt and survive for 6 months and that's what I'd need to feel comfortable in leaving. Hopefully it won't come to forced redundancy but if it does I'll cross that bridge when/if it happens.

No more financial news from me. Just one more day closer to debt freedom and contemplating a mini celebration of my 1st LBM anniversary. The last year has gone so incredibly fast!

  • Well our DMP is now set up with SC, we've now received the budget through the post and it's interesting how they've worked out some of the figures, they seem to be over generous imo, but we're gonna give it a few months see how we get on before adjusting any of the figures.

Give yourself some time and space. You've climbed a mountain too get to this point, well done :T

No one is happy to be in debt but I promise life will be happier than it was and over the next few weeks and months it'll get easier.

I think you're absolutely right to give it a few months first, when I was with StepChange I thought their food amount was huge and it turned out to be much less than I was actually spending. :o But if they do turn out to be too generous, maybe think about putting the money into your emergency fund and then when that's at a level that you're totally comfortable with, try saving for Full and Finals.

Also, it's worth keeping in mind that StepChange's budget can be a bit limited in terms of categories, I can't remember whether or not they have a birthday/Xmas pressies category but I know they don't have a holiday one and the length of most DMPs is a long time to go without even a weekend away somewhere. So it might be worth keeping the excess StepChange is giving you for other things that they don't take into account.

    Hi all,

Bmma makes a really good point, before my DMP if I was in a shop and they asked if I would be interested in applying for a store card I would make up some excuse knowing fine well I'd be rejected.

I'd be the guy saying, "Credit? nah, I don't do that stuff..." or "I rarely shop here. This hammer, nails and wall paper are for my Mum..." and so on, anything but owning up to having a rubbish credit rating LOL

Now, I cheerfully reply "Nah, I have a stack of debt and a poor credit rating so I'd only fail even if I wanted to try" :)

In other words, the feeling of shame has gone! And it's all down to the power of the DMP :) knowing I'm in debt but doing something positive makes it feel kinda... Good :) I'm proud of myself and my DMP :)

God may have given Rock'n'Roll to you but I got my DMP from Step Change ;)
