Thanks for the replies regarding my Paypal enquiries. I did wonder if it was a case of the banks hanging onto my money to make a few extra pennies on the interest before they give it back to me. I am very suspicious of banks and their workings.

I think I have a lot to learn about ebaying and need to do some research! I have so much stuff to sell and get rid of. In the old days it would just go to a charity shop or in the bin but I need to be more proactive and get my a*se into gear.:D

I haven't tried it myself but there are also some selling groups on Facebook which are good for larger local items. Gumtree is good for local stuff too. My daughter has used both and recommends them.

Books, CDs, DVDs, games - try Amazon. Some you can even trade in and collect Amazon gift vouchers for Christmas etc.

great progress everyone - been offline for a few days and loads of catch up reading! It's inspiring and comforting that we are all making progress. My happy thing for the day is that I have had all my statements for this month and my debt is now in the 13s (thousands) which feels like a very good milestone to have reached... now just got to stretch my remaining pennies til payday (just over a week) and I'll be ok! *scampers off to amend signature*

We love those milestones! well done Karen :T :j

We cancel sky every year and they always beg us back. We had it totally free for 11 months and now currently on full package for 12 months at 75% off. Even with our DMP I don't mind paying £20 for everything, and you can use £20 pay TV allowance with Stepchange budget.

We just cancel and wait for retentions to ring. Always let it go off though, you get the best deals when you are not currently live.

Will do it again in November, but only at the right deal. Once it goes off you can learn to live without it, but it's nice when it's there and you have a lovely discount.
Thanks for the tip I'll see what they come up with then :)

    Hi all

Thanks for the advice. I did feel like that when she first told me about it. I think she just wanted to help me as she had got herself in very deep a while back and she has that account. So I've bit the bullet and got a basic account set up - I have the number and sort code, just waiting on confirmation on when I am able to add funds etc and set up direct debits from it. I am also as suggested going to set up a basic savings account to put any left over money in so that acts as the emergency fund for me. Like you all say I have control over it this way. I think she was just thinking if I struggle to budget then the other account does it for you, but I think I need to learn budgeting and financial management skills along the way on this plan.
Great decision, I am still learning to budget too but by doing it ourselves we will be fully prepared to remain debt free when our dmp's end :)

Hello all. This isn't strictly related to DMP's but hoping that as you are all my mates you won't shout at me. I am just venturing into making some money by selling stuff on Ebay and just set up a paypal account. Now on the blurb on the paypal website it said the money could be in my bank account within two hours. My mate says it takes four days. What's your experience of this? I know a lot of DMPers make a little extra by selling on ebay etc. so thought I'd ask the experts:)
    Hi

When you first set up with eBay/PayPal as a new seller PayPal will hold the money for around 2 weeks before you can transfer it to your bank account. This is just in the beginning until you are established as a seller. When you come to transfer to your account it does only take 2 hours for me it usually appears straight away.

me too - I'm definitely still learning this stuff. It all feels so new - I have never paid attention to my money in the way I do now. I used to think I couldn't, then just got so messed up financially that I wouldn't look at anything financial. I feel so determined to get out of this hole and never fall back in. I am looking for local college courses on book keeping and things just to get as much familiarity with all things money management as possible so that when I get debt free I don't go crazy then end up back where I started. I am almost scared about being debt free and having money if that makes sense (I say 'almost' - not scared enough to sabotage my dfw attempts!!). It's such a responsibility and I don't want to screw it up!

Yeah I know just what you mean, but I think it's finding that level of control and keeping it that will be my challenge, I get a bit weak when I see 'interest free credit' or 0% finance etc. being I the DMP means I can't be tempted into those sort of things and I hope eventually I will be able to see past them straight away.

:jWelcome to any newbies, just want to say make sure you are clear on OFFSETTING RULE before you decide where to have your wages paid in. Last thing you want is your wages/savings being snatched away (legally they can do this).

A week on still waiting for Payplan to get in touch :( asked them to ring after 4 on Monday he rang 3:30 Tuesday, while I was in work till 6:30, asked them to ring after 6 today still waiting :( I just want to get the ball rolling. I get paid next Friday & I've already spoken to half of my creditors whom have frozen my account pending pay plans contact. I'm quite looking forward to having a wage to myself to actually be able to treat my mum to £5 bingo (the little things but it's true they mean a lot).

I need to ask though I look at everyone's figures from what they started at & where they are now in regards to paying it off & how quickly you've done it (well done) & I kept help but thinking (& after some working out) that I could be (except for a catalogue bill) debt free in 18months. But going to the question will Payplan let me pay what I want to get it paid off ASAP eg £50 a month to each creditor or will be a case of them wanting me to make minimum payments?

In my experience with stepchange they work out a comfortable budget for you to live on and then use the remaining to pay your creditors. Paying the most to the highest debt. SC have allowed me to make overpayments.

It's worth checking with pp to see if you can do this too.
