Can I ask a question? How do I get a cc to default? HSBC and virgin cc are still charging me the earth. I think in the HSBC one won't default ad I'm paying above the min each month, but can I change this? Thanks. Did you ever write official letters of complaint and follow these up with the FOS?

No. Not sure what a fos is. I did write to them to ask them to freeze them, but to no success.LBM: NOVEMBER 2011 || debt free date:30/06/15 || The Fighting Debt Army: #442 || Frugal Living Challenge 2018 || January 2018 Grocery £1.22/£100 ||0

In the letter to the creditor did you use the word 'complain?' and FOS = Financial Ombudsman Service
I think you will have a harder time getting interest frozen & a default if your payments are above the mimimum...but were they when you started the DMP?Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Hi guys, thank you so much for all the information on here - it has been a lifesaver to know people are sharing this experience over the last couple of weeks. I have just started a DMP with SC, and my first payment is going out this month. I have begun to receive default letters from companies, and Halifax are refusing to accept the payment. My question is, is it the default letters that will put a black mark on my credit file, or is there worse to come. My DMP is over 57 months - I know that my credit file will be affected for 6 years - is this from the default notices being issued?? Bit confused. Lastly, as Halifax are not accepting the SC payment offer, will I just go on accruing interest for the next 57 months, and then owe them a fortune on my DMP ending?? All help gratefully received xx0

Well i've bitten the bullet and posted letters to my creditors yesterday stating i was seeking advice from stepchange and had made a token payment. Just realised through the night tho that i had sent a letter to vanquis instead of impact. Do u think they will just pass it on to impact seeing as its their own internal collections branch?0

Wow, go away for a week and there is another 10 pages of posts
Nice present to come back to though, got our 2nd Default notice, this time from Santander for the Overdraft.
Thanks very much. We celebrate defaults don't we
Seriously 2 down now only another 6 to go, but some just won't do it and have pretty much said as much aka MBNA but will work on it.0 -
Thanks Kate, yes don't get me on growth spurts, another new pair of trousers last October...I'll just stop feeding 12 year old on Shreddies, Aldi variety
he eats them like they're going out of fashion!
Best wishes for your sister susekaStartingover14 wrote: »Right I've cancelled the direct debits for minimum payments and set up token payments to come out on the same dates. I've got the letters ready to send just need to print and get some stamps.
I took Stepchange's advise to increase the food budget and also the prescription which leaves less for the creditors, but she did say it was flexible and if over time I felt that it needed to change then we could amend it again. I won't be going straight into the DMP due to salary and getting things straight so looks like it will be November which helps to get self together. Felt really bad doing it but it does mean its me in control. Deep breaths and start to get on planning.
This might sound daft but I have a huge amount of food in my freezer so I have made a list of my kitchen contents and intend not to buy any food unless its milk or bread until I've done what I can to eat my way through its contents. It might even have the effect of losing some weight which is another one of my challenges!
Well done startingover I hope you feel good for it now:)... assume you havn't cancelled mdd for your current banks debts if you havn't set up new account. I hope you will find a breathing space opens a new window of freedom and opportunity to learn to manage your money, like it has for me...although I'm still making 'mistakes' I'm definitely on the right track;)
Not 'daft', sensible and starting a new ethos of managing food spending - definitely my 'weakness' - but every week I try again and I'll get to a more sensible proportional amount of food spending:)

Hi monkey congratulations on starting the DMP :T...just something I think worth mentioning, I assume you have read the thread and decided not to delay payments to get a little straight etc first.
I'm still a bit of a newbie myself but I think it is the default that is the 'worst' or you could say 'best' - yes, the 6 year 'blacklisting' starts from that date for each creditor default, not from the date your DMP starts so you may not get a default for some time and then it is 6 years after that. That is why, where possible, you should pursue a default. If Halifax don't accept payments, SC will continue to pay them. You should use the template letter that ttftm has previously supplied to complain to Halifax, it quotes the FOS guidelines regarding debt. I used it about a month ago with Lloyds and have had interest refunded and stopped:) sorry I don't have the link but it was posted on this thread a couple of weeks back.
Please correct any mis-information any more experienced DMPers0 -

Well done chapter. I can't give an answer to your question, but I would probably phone and check, or send another letter. Personally, I would have more peace of mind knowing I've definitely sent it to the right department - so that I don't get any come backs - and so I would send it again.
