Just looked at my old emails and the last one I got from him after forwarding a piece of mail was a one-liner saying "any junk mail please bin....if I haven't missed by now.....won't."

Kinda wish I'd just binned the post I have here now, but in the long run, ignoring congestion charges will probably just result in bailiffs eventually appearing at my door.

Still undecided as to whether to send him another note requesting he updates his details as further post will be binned as per his email. I don't want to get his back up unnecessarily, but I'm not a post forwarding service either.

Your right it wouldn't interest the DVSA as they only deal with the Driving Tests and Vehicle Identity Checks.

The tenent doesn't have to forward the mail on either, I wouldn't be an an unpaid postal forwarding service.

Look up the difference between owning and living in a place.

Nothing to say about the no gas safety or not protecting the depoist?

That would depend on the contract

Does it state on the lease you have to forward mail on? If so ask him to supply you labels with the address on as you don't have time to wite the address out all the time.

If not on lease, then send an email requesting to change, otherwise Return to Sender - he may give you an eviction notice though.

There is nothing in my tenancy agreement (or any I have had previously) about post forwarding, and certainly not forwarding on to LL at my personal time and cost.

I didn't realise that you could let out a house and get a free secretary by including appropriate contract terms! :rotfl:

It isn't all that regular anymore, and really only now get junk mail (binned), occasional credit card bills (and even a card) and DVLA documents. I'm just finding it irritating that I'm expected to forward on at my own albeit minimal inconvenience when it shouldn't even be coming here in the first place.

Don't know if it's the norm, but the last few contracts we've entered in to have a term for forwarding of landlords mail to their respective agent. Although it was clear this was not a way of using the house as a forwarding address, just a standard clause

Thing is, I don't mind forwarding the odd bit of post, and have done so without question for a good while. It's only because he has recently become less than helpful for no other reason than he's had to spend some money, so I'm just feeling a bit less inclined to be helpful in return.

I just wanted some opinions on it, especially as it's something as important as a car registration. Opinions have been helpful and I am going to continue to be reasonable for the time being with a final polite request to update accordingly, and I guess we'll see how it goes from there.

I thought it was illegal to not update your address with the DVLA

The law requires you have an address via which you can be contacted. Which he can be.
I am going to make sure to send the post to him quite late to ensure his congestion charge doubles

Frankly, the pair of you deserve each other.

I thought it had to be the address at which you reside, but I can't find anything anywhere to confirm either way. Regardless, he won't be able to be contacted via this address after this batch, as future letters will be returned to sender.

I don't particularly mind the cost of stamps or even the inconvenience, but now we are looking at fines and expired licenses which is a different matter entirely, and I don't want the next incident being a bailiff visit instead of just a letter.

Perhaps deliberately delaying the post is unreasonable, and not something I would normally do, but as he has failed to respond to polite requests in the past I am hoping that something that hurts his wallet might prove more successful in motivating him to get on with it.

I wouldn't enjoy paying the costs of the stamps to forward mail on, this is a moneysaving site ;) and it all adds up. If he wants them forwarded on then he pays for it.

I would "delay it" by not forwarding them straight away, as I'm busy and don't have time to do these things.

There is no cost to forward. Just write "MOVED - (new address)" and dump it back in a post box.
