Hi
anyone have tips on best way to prepare wall (lined and painted with what looks like silk emulsion) for using mat emulsion (farrow and ball)
I was thinking should I was with sugar soap and use a cheap white Matt emulsion as a base coat?
Thanks!

That's exactly what I would do. Also fill any little holes and sand off before you put your first coat of cheap white emulsion paint on.0

Just don't get it too wet or the lining paper will blister/lift off;);)
Water will penetrate even silk emulsion.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if your wall is painted in silk emulsion matt emulsion may not go over it ok - often when you try this the paint dries with millions of tiny cracks in it called crazing, this is because the matt paint cannot stick to the shiny silk (I know this from bitter experience! - it does NOT show at first, but develops as the paint dries). Someone will come along who knows more but I would think you would need to undercoat it with something like a polycell basecoat first, that is what I have done when painting a friends room in the same situation.
