Does Electricity Company Want my Custom?

Hi

I've been paying my energy supplier for a year now by direct debit, on one of their capped tariffs.

Today I got a bill through saying I'm now on the 'cash quarterly plan.' Obviously my direct debit and capped tariff has expired, but I don't recall seeing any letter asking if I wanted to renew it.

Unless a letter got lost in the post, is it normal just to transfer you to any old plan, once your current deal expires?

Tried phoning them multiple times to get an explanation, and possibly new deal, but their call centre is always 'experiencing a high number of calls', and this evening I wasn't even giving the option of waiting on the line (not that I could be bothered anyhow.)

Maybe it's the perfect time to find a new supplier for electricity and gas. Was paying £42 a month.

Is it worth making a move, or should I just tried and endure their overloaded call centre?

Thanks

It's normal for these sharks to move you onto their more expensive "standard tariff".

You don't say who your currently supplier is, although that's not entirely relevant, it's good to warn others who to avoid. What you should do at this stage is go to a comparrison site, enter your details - your usage in kWh will get a far more accurate result than the amount in £s.

Also worth saying, that £42 a month seems very reasonable to me.

Thanks Andy_WSM, I was going to give my supplier 'the benefit of the doubt' and presume that a letter had been lost in the post. I won't be able to confirm that until I get through to them on the phone (not easy.)

If I do find out that they've not sent me a letter to say by direct debit, and original tariff ended, then I'll probably tell them to beat it.

Its £42, mainly because Im in a small, modern flat.

    Cheers

    Nice. :)

I like where I live, but it was built in the 70s when "efficiency" wasn't a word commonly used!

Indeed, when a fixed term deal comes to an end (preferably just before) it is the ideal time to consult a comparison site to find the best supplier & tariff for you :)

Unlike a supplier to take you off an existing DD payment plan, even if a fixed tariff has come to an end, as they prefer this method of collection.
