Child Tax Credit Question

bear in mind you won't receive WTC whilst unemployed, so you need to work out approx £420 / 52 x weeks you were eligible.
Unless any figures you gave them are incorrect then it's probably not worth wasting your life ringing them up as all they do is put the figures into the computer & that's the answer. Most of people on the phone line usually haven't a clue how to work it out themselves, so not worth the hassle.0 -

The WTC elements affect the CTC award, but the only thing that matters is how long they were entitled to the 30h element, since the threshold for CTC only awards are set at where the WTC basic & couple elements taper to zero. So it doesn't make a difference whether they were entitled to WTC or not if they weren't getting the 30h element.0 -

Any money you may have been due between now and then would be held back as a "potential payment" until the end of the tax year." When you confirm what you actually earn. Any future payments would increase though.
If you think it's likely the income for this year is going to be £36000 then you should tell them ASAP. If you wait until the end of the year then you might be overpaid.
As with the disregard for income decreases, there is a disregard for income increases of £5000.
So in that scenario if last year is £28,500 and this year is £36,000 then your claim for 2014/15 will be based on £31,000 so again if estimate an entitlement of £700(ish).
I would say these amounts I am quoting are only a rough guesstimate based on the entitlement tables on the gov.uk site and would be based on one of you working 24 hours all year round.
I see. We've only just completed our renewal because everytime we called up we had to wait until the form come through. They wouldn't accept anything over the phone.
That makes sense what you're saying though, and I only wish I'd have asked on here earlier instead of wasting my time with the people that are paid to help me via the phone.
Thanks again.0 -

Yea, we're not entitled to working tax credits. I work full time and my partner works 16 hours a week.0 -

Sorry, you're right, it was the 30 hours portion of WTC that I was thinking of.
However it does change what the poster is entitled to & what they will receive as they may be entitled to a combination of CTC/WTC
Best thing is to probably calculate it out for yourself - full guide here rather than using tables
