BT is currently prompting the BT6500 cordless phone, with answer machine, which it claims will block up to 80% of nuisance calls.
How does that work, exactly?

Just buy ANY phone with caller display and an answer machine. If you don't recognise the name/number on the phone let it go to the answer machine. ALL the cold callers will hang up.
Blocks 100% of nuisance calls !0 -
The BT6500 blocks numbers in two separate ways
to help you avoid nuisance calls, firstly by type e.g
withheld or international and also by your choice of
specific numbers (you can store up to 10 numbers
of your own choice).0 -
Usually the nuisance calls have number withheld so how would the phone be able to remember them to block them?0

This phone can block withheld numbers/number unobtainable/overseas calls/plus any individual numbers you input. Presumably if it doesn't detect any incoming number at all the caller gets cut off before the phone rings.
If you fancy a device to block out nuisances, this phone doesn't look too clever if it only holds 10 numbers0 -

Most of the panasonic landline phones have a call blocker option on them.Only problem is you cant block number withheld calls. But i have about 18 calls blocked now so its quieter in my house than what it was before i had the Panasonic.0

i have a http://cprcallblocker.com/ v201 and it does the job.
many known nuisance calls are pre-programmed into it ( i believe 200), when i get an unwanted call now i just push the block button either when the phone rings or during a call, it also can block witheld numbers, international, area codes, unavailable numbers.0 -
Panasonic has been a great phone (30 blocks allowed) but if you're a TalkTalk customer with most of their packages you get free call block (another 10 numbers) and free witheld blocking.
The Panasonics give the caller an engaged tone for blocked calls (you have no idea they phoned) but other calls (ie not on your white list) the phone would light up (but not ring). To set up the white list set Night Mode to 23hrs 59mins.
Best thing I've found is block ALL calls but allow a white list and anyone else can leave a messag or write a letter.
Or just !!!! off.0
