Having problems with a joint tenacy

Hello I am currently a student sharing a house with four others on a joint tenancy.
Myself and my friend have fallen out with the lead tenant with a month to go on our lease and she has said directly to our faces she wont be splitting the deposits evenly and will keep it between her and her boyfriend who is the other tenant.
We have not yet payed the final months rent, could we withold this (we all pay it to her and then she pays it to the landlord) the landlord would of course then be welcome to take our share of the rent out of the deposit. This would cover mine and my friends backs as otherwise it seems likely that we would see none of the deposit money.
I was wondering if this would be legal, my guarantor is my dad and I dont want the landlord going after him as its my problem as I was wondering if they would.
If anyone could give me any advice that would be great, I dont know where else to ask
Thanks

Thanks
Did the lead tenant give a reason why she believed she was entitled to keep the deposit?0 -
The problem we have with her is that her boyfriend has done massive amounts of damage to the house in a drug fulled state. we know it was him and we confronted them about it saying how it was unfair that we are all going to get money taken from us for his stupidity. Myself and my friend have taken good care of the house where we can yet they dont and are not going to help clean up at the end, despite the fact they had also been in the house a year before we moved in (we replaced some old tenants) Also when we moved in someone had dumped some rubbish in the garden which as its our responsibility we had to clean, my dad came down to help but the lead tenant and her boyfriend did nothing and it was a whole days work that could have quite easily cost £300 or more if he hired someone. We confronted them about this and it turned into a massive argument and we are now not speaking and this was when she threatened to keep the deposit.
We also dont deal with the landlord as we go through an estate agency as they live abroad, do you think then its worth getting in touch with them?0
