Please help as i dont know enough about this.
Last December the storms slightly damaged the roof of our brand new house but when we contacted housebuilders they said we would need to go through our insurance. We contacted them who told us to get the work done and send them the bill and they would pay it ( we had to pay excess) However on getting quotes we discovered it wasnt worth expense of increased future policies so decided to get it done ourselves. The insurer proceeded to put it on our policy that we claimed but £0 paid out. I rang them to ask it to be removed as we hadnt claimed in the end and I didnt want it to affect my future no claims and premiums but the gentleman informed me he couldnt do that and he could only change it to a loss to policyholder on our policy to show that weve paid it ourselves. He said i would still have to declare this in the future. I argued that this didnt seem right as we are being penalised for something we havent done and said that if I hadnt contacted them in first place they would have been none the wiser.
Sorry to rant it just seems so wrong- can anyone offer any advice or any details of who we can speak to take it further

You were advised correctly.
This incident will now be on the shared database.
You are usually asked to disclose any claims or losses you have had.
In future only contact insurance if you are sure you are going to make a claim0 -
Thank you yes it would seem its a costly mistake to have made but as weve never had any dealings with house insurance in past we had no idea what to do and were never made aware this would happen:(0

Increasing home insurers are asking about "incidents" too - Motor have done for decades - and so if you had phoned them or not you should in theory still tell others about the incident if thats what they ask at quote stage.
In reality most dont tell insurers about unclaimed incidents but as soon as you let them know then most will log it and often also with the shared CUE database to ensure you "remember" to tell oters in the future too0
