Experience with Insurethebox car insurance renewal quotes?

Hiya,

Got a good quote from Insurethebox (£870 to insure a 2,5 TD5 G4 Defender) - even though it is a telematics insurance. This all sounds fair but I have not been able to find too much about how the renewal quotes were after one year of monitored driving.

I am driving since 20 years - quite safe driver. The only thing is that it is tempting to go off road time to time with my Defender.

What can I expect on renewal with a bit of off road driving say ten times a year?

Does anyone have experience with that?

Or any experience with renewals with Insurethebox in general?

Have you phoned them and asked them?

Offroading may trigger the G sensors in the box.

How old are you? If you've been driving since you're 20 and you're now 21, I would understand but if you've been driving since you were 20 and you're now 30+, I'd ask why you're not just looking for normal, non-Big Brother insurance?

Unless you live in Kandahar or Beirut, or you've got a licence littered with drink driving convictions or something, I can't see the need for a box-based insurance.

Some more detail on your circumstances might help elicit some decent advice - age, area you live, accidents, convictions, NCD etc.

20 years insurance, safe driver and £870 for a Landrover? That sounds crazy. Fully comp for Porsche 911 cost me £270 and is a bit higher risk!

I am 37, no convictions, no accidents.
I am living in Edinburgh. I am living in the UK since 2 years so I am not eligible for NCB from before. But that's about it.

Where do you insure your porsche?

I don't like the big brother insurance either but that was far the best quote (on moneysupermarket).

Where do I get a better one?

It was with Tesco via GoCompare

So you have 17 years driving experience, but presumably you only have held a UK licence for a couple of years, with a maximum of two years NCD?

Even taking that into account, nearly a grand to insure a Disco TD5 is crazy.

Better quotes can be found using specialist insurers, or by phoning around.
  • Thanks for the encouragement. I kept searching and got a much better premium with Admiral - a non-big brother one.
  • Insure The Box is a good provider for starter drivers...I am now getting to the point where I am doing alot more driving during peak times of the day I have been offered better deals by companies for my safe driving

but heres the catch insure the box want a fee to cancell your policy and a fee for the telematics box in the car so to a degree you are stuck in a rut to the point where you end up paying for top up miles

they even charge to change details on my account I recently moved to a small village which is virtually crime free they have put my monthly payment up by 5quid

be very carefull with insure the box read the small print dont get caught out

Welcome to the wonderful world of insurance. All insurers like to charge for the few seconds it takes to tap in a couple of words on a computer. Just another way they can screw us all over.

They do it to keep their headline rates down, like car rental firms.
