This isn't comping related. So hope it's ok to put here. Just thought as nuisance calls can be a side effect of comping some of you guys could offer me some advice.

My Home Number (not listed) has started to get a lot of nuisance calls over the last few weeks which has been gradually increasing over last two weeks to a scary amount.

We have about 7 diferent numbers. from 3 or 4 different companies calling us (noted down). Companies are payday loan/debt consolodation types. They all have a few things in common, they are asking for one specific person, or they just hang up on us. Either way, they will not get the message that this person does not live here or will not take us off their list, even with theats of reporting etc etc.

Neither of us ever give out our home number, so we've come to the conclusion that someone has applied for something and changed their number on purpose which happens to be ours and now we're getting bombarded.

What's the best way in dealing with this? Usually most reputable companies get the message and stop calling, but these people won't.

We registered our home phone with the TPS about 10 days ago.

Just tell them you are registered with the TPS and wish to be removed from their database

As you are registered with TPS you can now report nuisance calls to them.

Also perhaps try adding caller display. It will show you the phone number of the person calling, or state 'number withheld'. You can then choose not to answer if you prefer. I would think that eventually they would give up calling if they keep getting no answer.

My final suggestion is to use Skype and moon them when they phone :D

GL, hope you get it sorted

Sounds like you are going about this the right way.
Armed with the companies name/details see if you can get some info online. There will be many other people having the same issues with these companies. I would look to an on-line contact for the company and then e-mail them with all the records you have and mention harassment. I think you need to tell them in writing that any further contact from them you will be passing on to the police as harrassment, but I expect someone on here will know the exact format.

Keep making a record of calls and names of companies and staff and once TPA kicks in then make sure you report to them too. It does take time but you will stop them in the end.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks guys.

I've been telling them i'm registered to TPS, not getting the message. It seems we have tried every trick in the book other than making a complaint to TPS and sending them a written email. Which will now be our next steps. So fingers crossed.

We do have caller display, but as we are both expecting calls from official legitimate callers at the moment, it's hard not to answer calls from unknown/withheld numbers and specific area codes.

Some numbers are easy to spot at the moment, most arn't. I think these types of callers are now making it harder for us to pin them down and make complaints by using different numbers and stating different companies, although we are both convinced they are all affiliated.

Lol @ Mooning Skype. I think that would be enough to give them a heart attack :rotfl:

Record, report & hand the phone to a chatty toddler as soon as you Know it isn't wanted. Or play James Galway's Greatest Hits down the line.

I'm fond of "This is a Vicarage - we don't own it" for clearing some callers & "What'cha wearing?" (with suitable leer in voice) has always been a source of entertainment for my husband.

We get very few nonsense calls these days...

    Or try these.

PPI calls -- tell them you are 15 years old
SOLAR PANELS -- tells them you live in a block of flats
CAVITY WALL INSULATION -- tell them you live in a caravan
HOUSE INSURANCE -- tell them the council own the house and to phone them

WE WANT TO SELL YOU LOTTERY TICKETS - gambling is against my religion

(I think that I have Daza to thank for that one, when someone asked on another thread a while ago!)

DOUBLE GLAZED WINDOWS - "I don't own the house"

The worst ones aren't so much nuisance as in not allowed because I'm registered with the TPS, but... magazine subscriptions! Argh. You subscribe to one magazine, and they expect you to want to subscribe to every other magazine they offer....

Could say you have an allergy to the ink used in the glossy magazines then go into detail about how your hands swell, weeping sores etc. keep them talking for ages (they are paying for the call). Think they'll probably avoid calling...:rotfl:

For solar panels - sorry, I live in Scotland. I don't know what this "sun" is you are talking about.

PPI - yep, done that, got the money all by myself and didn't have to pay you guys a penny!
  • This sounds like they are chasing someone that used to live there or as you have said opened something in your address. I find it odd that they are asking for the same person and if these were just nuicance calls then they wouldn't have a name. I suggest you ask them which companies and if you can then ring and speak to a supervisor or similar and ask if this 'person' has stated they live at your address.
You could report this to the police who may chase it up if you have the names of the companies.
