Im firmly of the opinion that insurance quotes are based on everything BUT risk factors they advise.

Several examples..

A standard quote for me was 2000 a yr.

Choosing co habiting instead of single knocked 100 quid off.
Changing garage parking to street parking knocked 700 quid off.
Adding an accident reduced it further by 200 quid.
Adding a male driver reduced by 50 quid
Adding a female driver reduced 250 quid.

I think you get charged more for popular answers.

A genuine issue i have now is that i have a corner apartment. There is a 6 second walk between my front door and my parking space.

To insure based on my front door is 1280 t insure based on the car park space is 550..
On my road there are no other houses..no pubs..no through roads for cars..nothing.
Every surrounding road is 550.

My insurers charged me based on my door address for 20 months. Im currently attempting to get a refund and signs are positive at the moment.

I think this is just a..its a con rant and not based on risk factors stated.

Adding an accident prone younger sister yo my clean policy would reduce it. How does that make sense?

Unfortunately not all of what you posted made too much sense.

You have to remember that this type of insurance works on the basis of averages and not logic however you can try to apply logic if you want. So "on average" a single person is more likely to show off in their car. Someone who cohabits is more likely to be "settled" and less likely to be playing arround to attract attention. Add to that the chances of having your kids in the car goes up if you are in a long term relationship and so further pushes down your risk of messing about.

As to the where you park your vehicle aspect, I am not 100% sure of the options you are comparing. Garage causes problems because people hit their walls on the way in or out causing moderate damage, its also prone to theft where someone takes the keys from your house. On street is prone to low value damage from hit and runs, often wing mirror only or light damage to a wing. Driveway is often the highest rated these days as whilst its damage low, the ocassional wall/ gate etc, its one of the highest theft rate because its obvious which house the car belongs to and so obv which house you break into for the keys.

With modern keys, it's easy enough to press the button and see which car's lights flash. This is what happened to somebody who had his belongings stolen from the pool while he was swimming. There was a car park full of cars but they found the right one!

But in a street full of cars which house to you break into to get the keys the 3 most expensive vehicles?

If they are parked on the driveway it makes it much easier to work out

    That's true...

I was thinking more that the burglar would go for the house that was easiest to get into and then get the car as a bonus if they found the keys.

Also, for the same two cars on a multi-car policy - cheaper to have my OH as the 'lead' policy holder than to have me as the lead policy holder.

We've both had our licences for more than 10 years (well, more than 30 actually), neither of us has points, even our jobs are the same!! This has nothing to do with who drives the most miles - we are both the 'main' driver on our own cars with the other as a named driver.
