i pay my electricity as one DD, generating some cashback, as innovate suggests.
i then use Tesco, a Credit Union, a Building Society and Friendly Societies for other DDs, across Santander, Nationwide and Halifax..
fwiw if i was you i would have 2 Active DDs in place..you can have them into Savings Accounts that you can access if necessary.

Hi Siskin, sorry to hijack your thread.

Should the £500 be credited from ones salary? Or can it be from your personal savings?

    Thanks

the £500 can come from anywhere..as long as it is not another SantD. account

...in your own name, ie it's OK to fund your account from your partner's Santander account (providing it's not a joint account you share with them) according to their Interest Rates and Fees Information document (page 3).
  • If you’ve got £20k spare you’d be better opening a TSB Classic Plus as it pays 5% interest.

You can have two of them as an individual and you can also have two joint account.

So £8k of your £20k could be earning 5% instead of 3%.....i make that £400/annum instead of £240

With the TSB ones you need to pay in £500/month (and have internet banking/paperless) but you could quite easily shuffle around £500 to and from your Santander 123.

Hi, have just opened 123 account (28/5), cards came quickly , text to say account is open , but when registering for online banking, says I require ID number (from where) , plus pass code and reg number, how long do these take to arrive ,seems pretty drawn out. Thanks

2 ways to get ID number and pass code.

1/ Go into branch with your card. Go to info desk. Ask member of staff to get bank to issue codes.

2/ Ring up Customer help line and request codes.

They say it may take up to 10days. But in reality about 5 days.

May be drawn out but did you really want your codes posted with your card? It's called security!!

Also may I suggest you read up about this account you have opened.

The information about how Internet Registering works is on the web site and I also believe in the paperwork about account they sent you ( terms and conditions).
