Damaged Glasses by Birmingham Airport Security

It doesn't matter how the glasses got tangled in the machine it happened. OP did the security people watch you put the glasses in the tray?0
-
Security were present when I took off the glasses and security check the tray before it goes into the machine anyway.
I'm still not sure how the glasses could have come out of the tray either, it's a very deep tray indeed.
They are full rimmed metal alloy glasses.
Just had a thought maybe the arm got caught on the plastic flaps they sometimes have and this lifted the glasses out of the tray.
Buying new glasses isn't a problem; their dismissal of the claim is! They broke them (filled out form there and then and they took pictures too), I think they should replace them.0 -
I think I am on the side of the OP. If they were told to put all metal items into the tray and there were no exclusions for glasses, then I can't see how they were to blame.
An airport is full of inexperienced flyers therefore the guidance should be clear.0 -
Never take my glasses off either. Then I get preferential treatment as I have a pacemaker.0

Never take my glasses off either - and have never seen anyone do that!!0

Me neither, surprised security didn't stop the OP taking them off tbh0

As you had taken your glasses off before putting them in the tray how can you be sure where you put them? You might have missed the tray completely.
When my glasses come off I cant see my hand in front of my face lol.0
