Adding Occupation to Insurance Company Lists

Hello! Does anyone know how to go about getting an occupation recognised by insurance companies? I recently had the delightful experience of trying to get buildings insurance for my house on a flood plain and NONE of the companies I spoke to (and there were alot!) no one understood 'University Technician', I am not a Teacher, or College Lecturer, but these are the closest ones to my job. Thoughts please Money Saving Experts?

lab technician? or just technician preceded by whatever your speciality is physics, electronics etc
the university bit can be covered under the employers business question

I see the problem. They may be nothing like lab technicians - more a sort of assistant teacher !!! admin.

Technician as job type and University as business?0

Many insurers simply use the ABI list, though some have developed their own. If you want the list changed then the biggest bang for your buck would be to reach out to the ABI. Of cause the chance of getting them to listen is small.0
