PPI claim forms

Can anyone tell me if it is normal and necessary to answer all of the questions on a questionnaire received from a bank re may claim. By that i mean what seems irrelevant questions like what I earned at the time, if i had savings or whether my employer paid sick pay! :j

They aren't irrelevant. They're there to establish whether you needed the PPI or could have paid the debt without it.

You can certainly refuse to answer such questions, but the likely result will be a rejection of your complaint.
  • Thanks Taff,

But I thought its about how this insurance was sold, not whether you actually needed it or not.

The reason behind the whole PPI scandal is that the banks etc offered no choice, or even added it without your knowledge. That is the issue and why they have been forced to repay squillions!

Of course some may have needed it, but the option to secure their own cover on their terms was not affored to them.

It is related to the sale but in most cases there is no evidence available from either side to support verbal conversations. So, in those cases, the suitability of the product is looked into. Many complaints succeed as it turns out the product was not suitable for the person. Equally, many complaints fail because it turns out the product was suitable and there was no evidence of wrongdoing.

Banks have never had to give choice. Thats a myth. Adding it without knowledge is rarely a successful complaint. Most complaints that get upheld do so on suitability, a failure in the sales process, missing or poor documentation or getting lucky with auto-payout.
