Cancelling Vodafone Contract

Hi, i've borrowed my mums account. Please be gentle!
I need to cancel my Vodafone contract for my iPhone 5. I have 3 months left of my 2 year contract to pay. I have had the phone for a year due to my cousin previously owning it then moving to Australia, so I took the phone and contract on to help him out. I have had many problems with the phone that have been proven to be a manufacturers fault, however I have had no luck in cancelling the contract due to this in the past. I need to cancel my contract due to me moving to South Africa in a month, I am going to do volunteer work and the phone has to many problems and is to unreliable to take with me. I have been in touch with Vodafone and they want to charge me £101 to cancel the contract on July the 3rd (3 days after I have left). Has anyone managed to cancel their contract with Vodafone before without having to pay off the rest of the contract? Any advice would be much appreciated!
Many thanks!
Georgia

Just on your first point, the phone and the airtime are two separate items, you can't cancel the airtime contract because of issue with the phone.
Is the early termination fee more than you would pay for the remaining contract term (if you paid each month)?0 -
Hi,
just to clarify, I don't want to cancel the contract because the phone is unreliable, I want to cancel because I need a phone for South Africa that won't be expensive, so have bought a cheap unlocked phone and will pick up a local sim card while I'm out there.
The termination price is the similar to the 3 months left to pay on the contract. All I want to do is cancel the contract, was hoping to avoid paying a big fee as there is only 3 months left to run (£108 to terminate, £111 to carry on the contract to the end.) Apple wanted £55 to replace the battery, there is also an issue with the charging port but I don't know how much that would be to repair as apple would need to check the phone first, so I decided to limp it along for as long as I could as I needed to save as much money as I could to pay for my trip to South Africa. Many thanks for your reply.0 -
You have no grounds whatsoever to terminate early without penalty, so pay the £108 as it's slightly cheaper: the difference is normally zero, since the ETC is the same as the amount owing on the contract to the end of the minimum term.
Leaving the country does not void your contract without penalty. No free lunch, and no free laptop

You won't get any joy from Vodafone, the most greedy of the mobile phone providers, money is all they care about.0

What is 'greedy' about asking the OP to honour the terms of the contract they agreed? A contract is a legally binding committment by both parties, not one. I can't see any other telcom taking a different approach on this.No free lunch, and no free laptop
