Holiday balance payment obligation

Hi.
We have booked a privately owned UK holiday cottage & have paid 25% deposit with the balance being payable on arrival. The booking form states that should we need to cancel, the deposit will be lost & we will be obliged to pay the balance in full unless the cottage can be re-let.
Just wondering if anyone knows if this is legally enforceable? We wouldn't normally take out insurance for a UK holiday but if the above is correct & legal then we feel that we should. However this in itself is costly for us as a family of 4 with one person having a pre-existing medical condition.
Many thanks for any help or advise. :j

It's certainly correct and legal. They would actually appear to be doing more than they need by not charging you if the cottage is relet0

Its certainly legal, and you have also signed up to agreeing to it.
As dzug says, they could just as easily make you pay whether they relet or not.
Have a good time.....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
