Nor does anyone in Government want to.....0

They might not drop and they might still rise further. That is partly why there is still strong investment from buy to let and over seas.
Interest rises and increases in property values are both very bad news for people wanting to buy their home, and many things must be done by gov, BOE, and EU to help.
If prices go up much higher and stay high due to very high demand to low supply... there will be no option but to make very long term mortgages available... just like in Japan..... and make slaves of a generation.Peace.0 -
I'm happy for them to not rise further .... that keeps everybody happy ... nobody'd struggle to move, people could feel it's worth saving for ....0

pity those in power don't see it like this....0 -
Depends on what you count as houses prices dropping. If they stay flat for a couple of years there will but the unlucky bunch who were suckered into over paying at the end of the frenzy who if they had to sell in the first few years would struggle not to make a loss. I can well see that happening and the moment for the turning point may be now or even already passed0

Nationwide said yesterday that the prices were the same as they were SEVEN YEARS ago. This is factoring in that London is skewing the data, so outside London the same price as they were more than SEVEN YEARS ago.
What do you mean 'not rise further' exactly?0 -
