Dishwasher position

Hi All

Will have a dishwasher in new kitchen, but where would you place it?

It is galley style, so I thought in unit adjacent to sink.

Other option would be right angles to sink.

Having been the dishwasher myself previously, wondered if there was an ergonomically 'clever' way to place it?

Thanks in advance

VB

I put mine under the large cupboard where all the plates, bowls, glasses and cups go. Saves trekking* around the kitchen with them. The waste will be pumped out, so as long as you can easily run the waste pipe from it back to the sink, you're on a winner - it doesn't need to be next to it - I guess in a galley kitchen just on the same side as the sink.

(*that said the kitchen isn't that big...)

I have 3 pieces of advice but they may be contradictory depending on your kitchen layout:

    1. Put it near the sink so you can easily empty the dregs out of cups, glasses and tea pot before putting them in the dishwasher

    2. Put it where you can get at both sides to make loading and unloading easier (so not in a corner)

    3. Put it near the cupboard where you store cleans dishes so it's easy to put things away when they're washed.

Agree, sound kitchen planning. I have galley style - sink and dishwasher are on opposite side to drawers which contain crockery and cutlery.

Mine's under the draining board, so the plumbing is simple. It's at the end of a run of units, so next to a wall on one side - no choice in our kitchen, but the wall constantly needs wiping down, no matter how careful we are when putting things in.

I would agree about having it near the sink - handy for rinsing things before putting them in, emptying out cups and glasses and so on. I tend to put things on the draining board as I use them, then pop them all into the dishwasher in one go when I'm finished, so it's useful to have them close together.

Once you've got one, you'll wonder how you ever managed without. For me the best thing is being able to 'tidy' everything away until you're ready to wash up.

Just planned my new kitchen and waiting to install, we have ours next to the sink we also have a large galley kitchen so plates, etc are in cupboard opposite ish but we have chosen a dishwasher with a cutlery tray rather than basket so our cutlery drawer will be next to the dishwasher. Also think about having work top above rather than a drainer, depends on your drainer ours is china, the reason I say is that I always empty my dishwasher when it finishes so plates etc are sometimes too hot to hold so I stack on the worktop and then transfer in larger piles to the cupboard.

Would not be without my dishwasher I am rubbish at washing up!

I agree that it is useful to have it close to the sink, also think about how easy it is to get past it when it is open.

Im my parents kitchen (they didn't plan it, have not yet got round to re-doing it) the dishwasher is in a corner, right next to the door into the pantry. it's really awkward as when you have the dishwasher open you can't get past so if you are clearing up after a meal, and have things to go into the fridge or freezer, or plates to scrape into the food waste caddy, you can't get past.

It's useful to have a surface above or close to the dishwasher so it you are loading or unloading you can put things on top as you load/unload (particualrly useful if there is likely to be more than one person helping, you can get a better work flow.

Mine is next to the draining board side of the sink - the previous owners had theirs the other side of the sink, in a corner, which was very awkward. Fortunately I was able to swap round the dish washer and the washing machine, and it works much better this way round.

Near the sink foe ease of drainage and clearing dishes before putting them in. Also put it on right side of sink if u r right handed. We have ours on left side and it's not as convenient as it would be if it was on right.
