Rights regarding rental vehicle
Options
Hi,
We rented a minibus at the weekend for a trip up to Scotland. Unfortunately during the course of the trip a deer ran out in front of the bus and we hit it. Fortunately no one was hurt and there was only a few dents to the vehicle.
Upon returning the vehicle we were told we would lose our deposit due to the damage which is fine and was expexted. What we are also being told is that we will have to pay an addition £340 as the mini bus will be out of action for 7 days whilst it is repaired.
We are told that this is to cover loss of earnings as they cannot rent the vehicle out for this period of time.
My question really is this. If there isn't anyone wanting to rent the vehicle, can we still be charged for this? For instance if they have say 10 of these buses and are only renting out 5 over the seven days, surely they have not lost any earnings as they have enough vehicles to cover?
Many thanks
Steve

If you were responsible for the company's uninsured losses in the event of any damage you were responsible for, then they are correct - though were you?
Read up on the agreement/insurance cover and take it from there.0 -
Unless the company you used is an exception any minibus will be booked well in advance. My local firm which is fairly large were booked up for over 3 months in advance.
What does the agreement state about the loss of use? Can they charge you?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
