Had a quote to fit carpets in 3 bedrooms and landing plus staircase for £1700
Total carpet 30m2
£25 p/m2

Does this sound ok?

Obvious question: does that include the cost of the carpet itself? If so, then it depends entirely on the quality and price of the carpet. If not, it's excessively expensive.

Unless my maths is wrong, is that £950 just for the fitting? Hasn't the fitting been separately itemised for you?

If it is 950, then it's far too high.

Depends on the brand of the carpet, and where you are based

I have never paid more than £40/m2 including fitting.

I work it out to 1.4 man weeks.

    £950 to fit it.

Pay an average carpet fitter £100/day plus on costs @ 35%

    £950/£135 = 7.04 days

I would definitely say that is OTT for a couple of rooms.

    a) is it a sole trader?
    b) where are you based?
    c) weekend work?

It's ridiculously over the top. Carpet fitting is probably one of the most reasonably priced trades, even in London. I paid Carpet Right's fitter about 300 odd quid for 5 rooms, 2 flights of stairs and two landings.

That on should be completed in one morning/afternoon!!
  • That seems steep. You should look to add on around £15 sq/m max to include fitting, underlay, gripper, door trimming, etc
