British Gas disputed meter readings
Hi I'm here for a little advise regarding british gas.
I left them for Ovo energy at the start of January. I gave them my final meter readings and I received a check in the post for around £35.
I gave them the meter readings 2 days after I officially switched to Ovo.
I then received a bill out of no where demanding £25 before they got the debt collector's involved. I have no idea where the bill came from so I just paid it thinking they overpaid me. (this was around march).
I have then just received another letter saying I owe them another £55. I rang them up, and got put on hold while she spoke to "the specialist". So explained to me something along the lines of the meter readers whet round at different times and have disputed the readings I have given. I questioned her further but she sounded like she didn't understand and just repeated the same information.
I just find it hard to believe I have given them wrong meter readings for both the gas and electric and how can they calculate it 2 and 4 months later. If I'm paying more to British gas, should I then be paying less to Ovo energy.
I hope you understand why I'm confused and just wanted to know how to proceed. I'm was thinking of just paying it since I don't want anything on my credit report by August.

Ensure the final readings used by British Gas match the start readings by Ovo.
If they differ, complain to either supplier asking them to ensure they use common readings.0 -
Okay thank you for this. I will ring up after work at 2pm. How do I know who is at fault though. And is it definite one of the suppliers used the wrong meter readings when closing/opening the account?0

This shouldn't be about apportioning blame.
What is important is that the suppliers use common readings as I described earlier, and where not, a complaint to either supplier should ensure they do. This might be the readings the new supplier has used, the readings the old supplier used, or a new, different reading they both agree to use.0 -
I understand where you are coming from but surely I'm going to have a problem getting one of them to adjust the readings they use as one of the companies is going to lose out. However I will ring up and see where I get. I'm assuming they aren't going to make my life easy by coming to an arrangement themselves so I'm going to have to act as the middle man?0
