Help and advice needed - hfc bank

Options
Hi everyone
I am in desparate need for some advice.
In 2008 I bought a tv from currys and paid £10.85 per month for 4 years. In 2009 I moved and completely forgot to inform currys or hfc. I continued paying until 4 months before the end - march 2012 when I then changed my bank accounts through the nationwide switch service where they sort it all out for you and at this point the direct debit was forgotten - balance outstanding £56!
I never received any correspondence as I had moved three years previous!
I am now in the process of getting a further advance on my mortgage and have seen my credit report. Hfc have placed a charge off against me for non payment - they said we can pay it to show it's settled but they will not remove as it shows true facts! It is apparently the worst kind of adverse credit as it's shown that I made no contact and have never paid any - it has now been written off but stays on my acc for 6 years! This was truly an oversight and I need help please

If the report is factually correct then you are very unlikely to persuade them to remove or change it.

It may be worth complaining to your bank as this seems to have fallen through the gaps when using their switching service. In the end though it is you responsibility to check these things and you surely must have noticed that the payments were not being taken.

Hi I have already tried the bank and they don't hold records that far back even though I believe it to be their error. I appreciate that the responsibility to change addresses and check bank account direct debits is mine but for £10 per month it just got missed! I'm so angry at the whole situation and cannot believe that for an honest mistake this could stop me moving forward with my life for £56! Has anyone had a charge off removed for an honest mistake??
