Seats with restricted view

Are there any rules or legal obligations about making it clear that a ticket is for a seat that has a restricted view?

I know sometimes restricted view tickets are sold slightly cheaper or sometimes if the restriction is slight then they are still full price (same price as the unrestricted ones around them), but either way is there a requirement that it is made clear they are restricted view before purchase?

What about if a seat ticket is sold as restricted view for one event, but not another, even though the restriction still applies?

I suppose it depends whether you find out it's restricted view at the point you receive your tickets (either it's printed on them, or it's not but you can tell from the seating plan, if seats are only allocated after purchase) or not until you get to your seat at the event, but what would be the expected/suggested/required/hoped for resolution? Tickets for different seats, a refund etc.?

Is it See Tickets you're having trouble with any chance? I've had this trouble with them and Nottingham Trading Standards told me I wasn't alone..

I'd have thought it to be a basic contract issue - the ticket represents a service they have agreed to provide and that service has been provided to an inferior standard to what a reasonable person would expect

It's perfectly possible for seats to be restricted view for one event and not another.

Some seats might be permanently restricted view due to pillars or railings in front of the seats.
But others, for example in the back of the stalls with a balcony above, may offer a clear view of the stage but only up to a certain height. So if watching a normal stage play, say, you would be able to see everything, but your view of an aerial acrobatic troupe would be restricted.

Sorry, yes true, my fault for generalising my question while having a specific situation (involving a permanent pillar always "in the way" regardless of production/event) in mind.

We use TheatreMonkey to check out seats for theatres and shows ! great site as it has reviews from real theatre goers !
Seat plans and restricted view options are clearly identified and give a good perspective on the seating :)
    Give em a try :)

I second that. They show a colour coded seat plan of the theatre showing what value for money the seat is.

Agree with using Theatre Monkey, you can actually get some great value seats where the obscured view is at the edge of the stage and easily overcome by moving your head slightly - I got seats that were £40 less than the ones next to them in one theatre.
