i'm about to rent a property and will need to be reference checked.
what is this and what information are they looking for??

i think it depends on each estate agent, but what happened with me was that they went through my credit history, got a character reference, information from my boss about my salary and a referene from a former landlord.
some landlords will ask for less - some just take a reference from a landlord i think. are you able to ask them what they need?0 -
It depends. Might just be a credit check, might be a CC plus an employer's confirmation of income (or accountant's confirmation if you're self-employed), might be this other checks.
Here's a description of the different reference checks offered by Premier Homelet to LL's. Click on the different options on the left for a description of what they include. What your LL does depends on which check he's chosen to have.
Of course, your LL might use a different referencing agency. Put
